BBC4
Most of the programmes on BBC4 on Saturday night are about the London cab
and cabbie, but one of them may have wider interest: "The Flipside Of
Dominick Hyde" is a 1980 play about "a time traveller from 2130 studying the
London Transport system".

Saw that on videotape a few years ago. It's quite a sweet little film,
really. Not actually about the London Transport system in any way, i
should warn you, although there is a scene on the 2130 version of the
tube, which still has the same signage, which is amusing if you're amused
by that kind of thing (which i am).
The two other things i remember from it are (a) the reference to Gilbey's
gin, which is now all but extinct, and (b) the phrase "beardy jungler",
which has passed into legend amongst the friends i watched it with.
The bloke in it looks like the guy who played the Doctor Who with big
hair, but it isn't him. I think.

It's Peter Firth, the chap who plays Harry Pearce in "Spooks".

Did anyone ask the time traveller whether construction work on Crossrail had
started yet?

Don't be silly, man - it's science fiction, not fantasy!
