Ferry routes - how to find what's available?
Over the past few years we've taken cars and/or bikes to the continent
quite frequently. Many useful ferry routes have now been discontinued,
in particular Felixstowe-Zeebrugge which would be brilliant for us as
we live only a few miles from Felixstowe.

We are currently planning a trip to Poland and maybe parts of Germany.
The DFDS Harwich-Cuxhaven route was discontinued last year (November)
so, if you look at the main ferry booking sites, it would appear the
only route left from Harwich/Felixstowe or other East Coast ports is
Harwich-Hook. NOT TRUE!

Some diligent Google searching has turned up the following
alternatives:-

DFDS operate a number of freight/passenger routes which are little
publicised. In particular they still take passengers on their
    Immingham-Cuxhaven route.

There's a new (September 2005) ferry operated by NedLines from
Harwich to Ijmuiden in the Netherlands.

Travel agents and ferry booking services deny the existence of such
routes, thank goodness for Google!

Does anyone here know of any good/useful web sites that really list
all available ferry routes? I.e. something as good as www.seat61.com
but for ferries.

Isn't North Shields (Fjord Line & DFDS) on the East Coast?

Yes, though a *bit* distant from us down in East Anglia! :-)
I think I class Newcastle as 'North', while it's not actually in
Scotland it's closer to Glasgow and Edinburgh than it is to London.

Actually better for me is the Immingham-Cuxhaven route that I
mentioned.

This

 http://www.expats.org.uk/travel/bysea.html

is quite useful but I expect a little out of date. It's where I found
the initial clue for your earlier question

Another thought - there used to be a thing called the ABC Shipping
Guide, though I haven't seen it (nor looked for it) for years. IIRC it
had at least some of these routes in. Your local library may know if it
still exists.

Presumably from the same 'stable' as the ABC railway guide of years
gone by. I can't find any trace of it using Google but I may pop in to
the library, thanks.
