Cavalier Travel AE06 ZBR in RTA - A605 W'sey, 6pm 23/10/06
As if the 'bus war' that's set to develop along the route of the ex-Morley's
701 Whittlesey service wasn't enough, Cavalier Travel of Long Sutton tonight
found themselves losing one of their newest vehicles following a road
traffic accident in the town.
The accident happened around 6pm when the driver of Peterborough bound AE06
ZBR, a Plaxton Bodied Dennis Dart, was forced to swerve to avoid a head on
collision with a large, left-hand drive motorhome which was overtaking
parked vehicles on the A605 Eastrea Road in Whittlesey, near to the Cemetary
Road roundabout.
The complete extent of the damage to the lower body of the vehicle was
unclear but the offside driver's wing mirror was ripped off in the incident
and one of the mid-position window bays was shattered.
There were several passengers on board but all of them, and the driver,
appeared unscathed after the incident.
One of a pair of identical vehicles, she was purchased during the Summer to
allow Cavalier to cover the route vacated prematurely by Alec Head Coaches
who thermselves acquired the route, along with the 'goodwill' of J.R Morley
& Sons Limited, in November 2005. Cavalier now share the route with fellow
local independent Judd Travel and Stagecoach.
