West Mids Bus Numbers
Hi all,
Has anyone in the West Midlands noticed that National Express have moved
the position of the route number on their digital blinds so the route
number is closest to the pavement rather than on the other side above
the driver?
I was wondering why they've done it, as it makes the route harder to
read if you're standing at an odd angle or the bus is going round a
corner as the bus body surrounding the bus blocks it.

Stand up strait then not at odd angles. ;-)
Lothian have this setup, when you have a line of buses approaching a
stop it is easier for the punter to see the route number without risking
decapitation

That hadn't occured to me as the reason, but it seems a very good one.
Of course, where there are a line of buses approaching a stop, it'd be
nice if they'd space themselves out a bus-length so you can see more
easily.
Oh, yeah, and to the driver of the 171 on Waterloo Bridge at about
18:20 this evening, that means not tearing past the other three, as
that won't impress the passengers who want to stop you.

Although it looks odd to midlandsers who are used to the number being
on the left of the destination there are two reasons for it. The main
one is to meet the latest DDA recommedations which say the service
number should be on the side closest to the kerb making it closer to
partially sighted people on the pavement. The other is as already
stated which is a TfL recommendation to the DfT
4083 before alteration on the left http://tfhbus.fotopic.net/p45985334.html
4083 with it altered to the right http://tfhbus.fotopic.net/p50857482.html
