I asked my local bus company a couple of weeks ago regarding funding
what mechanism was in place and a senior member of staff
( I don't talk to oily rags only talk to engine drivers ) told me that
bus companies are not paid the full value of the journey taken by a
pass holder and out of a £ 1.20 fare the company only gets around 20
or 30 pence.
In some respects this does not seem to ring true but on the other hand
has someone else explained to me had the passenger been having to pay
in cash then most probably he would have used his car therefore the
bus company was in fact 20/30 pence or whatever better of . I traveled
on a bus on Monday a journey of 25 miles the bus a limited stop
service had a total of four passengers on board for the whole of the
journey three where pass holders the other paid cash . The company
although it must have lost out on the journey was in fact better of
for taking pass holders than had there just been the one fare paying
passenger on board .
You know Terry these bus companies cant be all that bad off when one
EYMS can order 4.1 million pounds worth of new Volvo deckers all of
which are in the process of being delivered at the moment .

It's about 75p or so in the West Midlands, I think.

They're probably leased rather than bought outright.

Don't think so Ivor they have a few vehicles up for sale
and on each they say ..............
Please Note - EYMS do not own the tyres on these vehicles, the price
for these will be available on application.

But on the other hand it might be the same people travelling if there
wasn't a free pass.
