Looks like a standard forward facing camera to me..? We've got a few f/f 
cams but not enough, they're very useful when determining accident 
cause/blame.

six cams fitted.
They have cut down claims by quite a bit.
But most of all they have caught our dear children setting fire to the seats 
on the top deck.

We have plenty of internal cameras but very few forward facing ones, which 
are very useful in the event of an incident. For example was the bus being 
cut up by a car when it braked hard causing passengers to fall over..? Did 
the bus or the other car go through the red light immediately before the 
crash..?

What I was wondering is what's so special about this particular system..?

One in the cab looking out of the doors. (Catches the bugger getting on.)

One in the front bulkhead looking down the bus.

One halfway looking to the rear.

One in the rear (outside) looking back.

One topdeck front looking back.

One halfway looking back.

One rear looking forward.

The resolution is brilliant. Enough for the courts.

And it does save on false claims.

Interesting, what system is used for that lot..?! We've just started using 
Wayfarer for the latest systems (and there have been no end of problems 
with the wireless links, but that's another story) and on the Mercedes 
O405N's that they've fitted them on there are 7 cameras:

One forward facing but directed downwards towards the ground, to catch 
anyone that might hit the windscreen

One on the external nearside facing forwards from the rear

One on the external offside facing rearwards from the front

Two covering the platform and cab areas

One just over the front wheelarch area facing back

One about three rows from the back covering the rear seats.

There is also a screen that the passengers can see that switches between 
the internal cameras.


A 30 minute download takes up about 250MB of disk space, so I dread to 
think what a couple of hours of 11 cameras would be..! My laptop is 
rapidly running out of space..!

Not at all, although they can of course be used for driver monitoring. I'd 
hardly call it spying, as the cameras are not covert and everyone, 
including the driver, can see where they are. There is even a screen on 
the latest systems at the front of the bus (but behind the driving 
position..!) so passengers can see the camera output.

Mostly they come in useful for *defending* the driver if a passenger 
complains about something or trips/falls on the platform or worse, 
assaults the driver. Only last week we had an incident where an inspector 
on board the bus was attacked. No camera, no identification of the 
assailant.

Of course if a driver is doing something they shouldn't be doing then more 
fool them for doing it in front of an obvious camera.

I set up one myself 25 years ago on a bus just to keep a record of the
route.

Here is the first 5 minutes of the journey from Birmingham City Centre
heading out to Solihull, anyone who knows Birmingham as it is now will
hardly recognise anything

Interesting, what system is used for that lot..?! We've just started using 
Wayfarer for the latest systems (and there have been no end of problems 
with the wireless links, but that's another story) and on the Mercedes 
O405N's that they've fitted them on there are 7 cameras:

One forward facing but directed downwards towards the ground, to catch 
anyone that might hit the windscreen

One on the external nearside facing forwards from the rear

One on the external offside facing rearwards from the front

Two covering the platform and cab areas

One just over the front wheelarch area facing back

One about three rows from the back covering the rear seats.

There is also a screen that the passengers can see that switches between 
the internal cameras.


A 30 minute download takes up about 250MB of disk space, so I dread to 
think what a couple of hours of 11 cameras would be..! My laptop is 
rapidly running out of space..!

fool them for doing it in front of an obvious camera.

route.

It was around 7.30pm. Running time all the way to Solihull was 26 min
on late nights then, so you could do the round trip in an hour.

It was also the reason I chose the 37 route to video, as that was one
of the first hand held video cameras on the market, and on continual
use the battery lasted 30 minutes!

Last night I was driving the 951 in a 24 year old Metrobus (2665) and
had one of those days where every set of traffic lights was on green
and managed to drive from Carrs Lane to The Clifton (Beeches Road)
about 5 miles out which was the first stop I had to make in 9 minutes
in the evening peak. I wish I had had my camera set up for that one!

I am sure if people said the lived 5 miles outside Birmingham City
centre and could commute by bus in less than 10 minutes they would not
be believed

cams but not enough, they're very useful when determining accident 
cause/blame.

But most of all they have caught our dear children setting fire to the seats 
on the top deck.

Not at all, although they can of course be used for driver monitoring. I'd 
hardly call it spying, as the cameras are not covert and everyone, 
including the driver, can see where they are. There is even a screen on 
the latest systems at the front of the bus (but behind the driving 
position..!) so passengers can see the camera output.

Mostly they come in useful for *defending* the driver if a passenger 
complains about something or trips/falls on the platform or worse, 
assaults the driver. Only last week we had an incident where an inspector 
on board the bus was attacked. No camera, no identification of the 
assailant.

Of course if a driver is doing something they shouldn't be doing then more 
fool them for doing it in front of an obvious camera.

I set up one myself 25 years ago on a bus just to keep a record of the
route.

reminder. Just one question, how the **** did you manage to make Camp Hill 
in 5 minutes from the City Centre..?!! I know there was a lot less traffic

It was around 7.30pm. Running time all the way to Solihull was 26 min
on late nights then, so you could do the round trip in an hour.

It was also the reason I chose the 37 route to video, as that was one
of the first hand held video cameras on the market, and on continual
use the battery lasted 30 minutes!

Last night I was driving the 951 in a 24 year old Metrobus (2665) and
had one of those days where every set of traffic lights was on green
and managed to drive from Carrs Lane to The Clifton (Beeches Road)
about 5 miles out which was the first stop I had to make in 9 minutes
in the evening peak. I wish I had had my camera set up for that one!

I am sure if people said the lived 5 miles outside Birmingham City
centre and could commute by bus in less than 10 minutes they would not
be believed

six cams fitted.
They have cut down claims by quite a bit.
But most of all they have caught our dear children setting fire to the seats 
on the top deck.

One in the destination box facing forward.

One in the cab looking out of the doors. (Catches the bugger getting on.)

One in the front bulkhead looking down the bus.

One halfway looking to the rear.

One in the rear (outside) looking back.

One topdeck front looking back.

One halfway looking back.

One rear looking forward.

The resolution is brilliant. Enough for the courts.

And it does save on false claims.
A few have been invited to the office and having viewed the video, go away 
with their tail between their legs

Interesting, what system is used for that lot..?! We've just started using 
Wayfarer for the latest systems (and there have been no end of problems 
with the wireless links, but that's another story) and on the Mercedes 
O405N's that they've fitted them on there are 7 cameras:

One forward facing but directed downwards towards the ground, to catch 
anyone that might hit the windscreen

One on the external nearside facing forwards from the rear

One on the external offside facing rearwards from the front

Two covering the platform and cab areas

One just over the front wheelarch area facing back

One about three rows from the back covering the rear seats.

There is also a screen that the passengers can see that switches between 
the internal cameras.


A 30 minute download takes up about 250MB of disk space, so I dread to 
think what a couple of hours of 11 cameras would be..! My laptop is 
rapidly running out of space..!
