poi
i am trying to compile a database of EVERY bus station in the uk to
create poi for satnav use, can users of this site help by sending me
the lat, and lon in decimal form of your local bus stations and or
further afield?once i have the data i need i will post a link to where
the poi can be located, thanx in advance from a frustrated coach driver

You can not be serious!
Quite honestly I wouldn't know the latitude and longitude of any of the bus
stations I use. I can tell you where they are though, and how to get there.

Autoroute 2007 lists & shows the location of 90% of 'em across Europe, &
the addresses. You may be able to get the co-ordinates off google maps,
I can't check now, as I'm on mobile data for the next week or so.
If you're running a Windows based PDA with GPS capabilities, you can
export local maps from Autoroute to Pocket Streets, preserving the POI
database for the area you export.
The Navigon software (Version 5, they're on version 6 now) I use already
has most (90% plus, IME) of the bus station entrances programmed in, as
does Tom Tom.
Just a few ways I've used in the last few months....
I'll have a look at ways of extracting the locations from the Autoroute
database, copyright permitting. The Autoroute team (Or Tele Atlas, who
do the mapping for Microsoft & quite a few other navigation programs)
may be willing to sell you the POI database you want for a price.
In all, it seems like you want to re-invent the wheel:-)
It'd be more useful to know which bus stations let coaches in. I know of
quite a few that don't, starting with the new one in Longton. (Moulton
Road, ST3), & Hanley Bus station (Access via Lichfield street, ST1 &
watch the one way system), which charges per visit. So does Derby, IIRC.

As a coach driver myself, I have the same problem with time as you.
Autoroute's not that dear, so I was sort of dropping a subtle hint there;-)
<Checks>
OK, Autoroute (And probably Route 66, if that's your choice) lets me
show all bus stations within an 80 km radius of a particular point, then
you need to tell each individual point to show details, then cut &
paste. Tedious, but doable, if you need to & can't do it any other way.
That's gonna be about half an hour per county, give or take. Call it a
week's work, more or less. If you distribute the list, though, look out
for the anti piracy entries;-)
If your work's for National Express, they used to have a list of all
their stops, not just the bus stations, in their central traffic office,
which is near Birmingham somewhere (I sort of remember it's a Coleshill
or a Birmingham phone number. I used to know it off by heart, but it's
disappeared off my system now) either job by job or as a book they used
to use & issue on request. They're normally the ones that call up in a
panic looking for a coach, so I always used to ask them the postcode
when they booked the coach. They used to be quite friendly when I was
working in the office.
If all else fails, there's a complete list of stops in the agent's
handbook, if you know of an agent. They don't change that often, so if
you can talk a local agent out of last year's copy, you're good to go.
Personally, I'd like to know which stations let private hires in, as I
do erratic day trips & the bus station is a handy place to drop people
off, I reckon.

Autoroute's not that dear, so I was sort of dropping a subtle hint there;-)
<Checks>

You can not be serious!
Quite honestly I wouldn't know the latitude and longitude of any of the bus
stations I use. I can tell you where they are though, and how to get there.

Autoroute's not that dear, so I was sort of dropping a subtle hint there;-)
<Checks>
