ANNOUNCE: South Yorkshire Transport Museum Open Day
The new South Yorkshire Transport Museum, formerly Sheffield Bus Museum,
opens its extremely large doors to the public for the first time on
Easter Day, 8th April.
We've moved very nearly everything that we had at the old Tinsley Tram
Sheds over to an industrial estate at Aldewarke, just north of Rotherham
(roughly here on Streetmap -
<http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=444045&Y=394385&A=Y&Z=3>).
It's not a particularly scenic location, and the building is just a
"crinkly tin" shed, but it's weatherproof. It means we can get on with
restoring vintage vehicles in considerably greater comfort than before,
without the rain making it always 3 steps forwards and 2 steps back.
In the longer term we are hoping to move again, to purpose-built
premises, but that all depends (as usual) on money.
Anyway, come and see the fleet, any time from noon onwards (last
admission at 4 p.m.). Admission is 3 quid for adults, half price for the
usual concessions.
More details on our website: <http://www.sheffieldbusmuseum.com/>.

Re: ANNOUNCE: South Yorkshire Transport Museum Open Day
Here by the way is the official announcement from the Museum's Directors:
South Yorkshire Transport Museum to open on Easter Sunday
We apologise sincerely for the lack of information in recent weeks on
the Website but the team of Museum volunteers have been working every
spare moment (which has amounted to literally hundreds of hours) to
ensure that the transfer of vehicles, artefacts and spares from Tinsley
to Aldwarke was completed by 31st March.
Furthermore, to allow public access to the new site a Change of Use
planning application was required and the formal notification that this
had been granted wasnt received until 5th April!
So after weeks of very hard work we are very pleased to announce that
the new South Yorkshire Transport Museum will open for the first time to
the public at 12 noon on Easter Sunday, 8th April. Whilst it wont be
quite the finished article there will be plenty for visitors to see and
enjoy. Last admission on 8th April will be at 4 pm.
The Museum Trust has decided to have monthly Open Days in 2007 with a
sprinkling of extra dates at Bank Holidays. The next Open Days will be on:-
Sunday 13th May
Sunday 27th May
Sunday 10th June
Admission charges are £3.00 Adults, £1.50 Concessions/Children and £6.00
for a Family Ticket (2 Adults and 2 Children). Museum Members free.
There is ample car parking and anyone bringing a pre-1973 classic
vehicle will also get free entry.
The new Museum is situated on Waddington Way, Aldwarke. For those of you
with Sat Nav the postcode is S65 3SH. Waddington Way runs off Aldwarke
Lane (the A6123), opposite the Corus Steel Works and alongside the arc
Car Wash. On Easter Sunday we shall be running a vintage bus shuttle
service between the ASDA bus lay-by at Mushroom Roundabout and the
Museum. A location map for the new site can be found on the Website.
We hope to see you at Aldwarke soon.
