An old school friend of mine had a recent project to design a mains
distribution system for racks of equipment on an oil platform.

There were no fuses, but the controller had to be able to identify a
single out of spec load out of dozens, and shut it down under software
control,  without affecting the others, and before it dragged the
whole bay down.
