If I had my way Brian I would stop every bus pass in the land I don't
agree with them never have and never agreed with our council back in
the sixties dishing out what was it now twenty quid's worth of tokens
that could be used on any form of transport within its own
boundary's.But until they are stopped I shall continue to use mine I
have paid for it by way of income tax and now by way of council tax
like every one else .God there are people with these passes working
and earning a small fortune each week using them they are a complete
waist of public money .According to good old Mr Brown I like the
hundreds of others am fully entitled to a pass with which I can
travel from one corner of England to the other for absolutely nothing
I shall continue to use it even though I have a brand new two month
old Vauxhall Meriva standing at the door doing nothing .

I am in a home Brian MY home the home that I worked long hours and
double shifts driving buses back in the sixties to buy, tell me Brian
how do you justify Stagecoach giving you AND your family
a free pass to use on all its services ?.

Cheap gimmick. They just don't give the employee time to use it.

Plus it's cheaper than paying decent wages. They know you'll never spend
20 grand a year on bus fares ;-)

In all of my working live I never worked for what I thought wasn't a
decent wage Ivor . I was told what the wage was BEFORE I accepted the
job if I didn't like it I never accepted the job and it is about time
people who take a job then start asking for more and more money did
the same .
Go to www.buspassheaven.co.uk for lots
of info that your local issuing councils
do not inform you about regarding services
that UK concessionary passes are accepted
on etc .

Give over Ivor some people these days would not be satisfied if they
where paid a grand a week .I am in full agreement with bus staff
having a free pass but not with their whole family having one also .
This is similar to what British Rail did but they went a step further
and provided the whole family with free specs and free eye test also.

Not so simple, Ron. Job responsibilities change but the money doesn't
always change to match. In my current (non-driving) job yes I knew what
the money was before I started but two and a half years later the workload
has almost doubled but my money hasn't.

Because it's the *passengers* that pay for it, not the b****y
shareholders.
I have always been against the privatisation of what should be a public
service. We could do a lot worse than take a look over the pond at the way
the Americans run public transport, particularly school buses, as that was
mentioned elsewhere.
In San Francisco, all buses, trams and trains are run by the San Francisco
Municipal Railway, commonly known simply as "Muni"
http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mhome/home50.htm
They are a public utility, not a private company only concerned with their
shareholders, and the way they run their system reflects this. For example
bus drivers are classed as Federal employees and assaulting one carries
the same penalty as assaulting a police officer.
It'll be a cold day in hell before we see anything like that here.

Hopefully Ivor hopefully if councils and government ever take control
of buses and trains and other services which they once had control of
up will go every item that we are taxed on and also up will go our
council tax .School buses Ivor school buses we didn't know what a
school bus was we either had to use our feet or bikes and if kids had
to do the same today there would not be all the vastly overweight kids
that there are in this country today.

We do see it here. It's called "Transport for London". I don't think
the employees have the same legal protection as policemen, but that's
not an important issue.
