BBC watchdog attacks Top Gear for glamorising drink-driving after Clarkson sipped G&T during race to North Pole
All aspects of the harmful practice of motoring seem to be glamorised.

"Top Gear has been censured by the BBC's governing body for
glamorising drink-driving.

It follows a complaint from a viewer who criticised the 'blatant use
of alcohol while driving' during an episode of the hit BBC1 show.

The programme – which saw presenters James May and Jeremy Clarkson
drinking gin and tonic in the cab of a truck – was described as
'grossly irresponsible'..."

All this demonstrates is that there are other people out there who are just
as self-righteous as you. They were in the middle of an ice sheet, hundreds
of miles from any other traffic and, even had they actually been drinking
alcohol, they would have been the only people at risk - more from the
effects of alcohol on the body at Arctic temperatures than from anything to
do with their driving though. However, it can take several hours and
numerous takes to make a couple of minutes of television, so it would have
been very unusual if the glasses had actually contained any gin.

Its not the first time the BBC has done this. While following a
female cyclist on a nude cycle demonstration in London last year the
cyclist was clearly shown drinking Gin and Tonic ( to give her courage
to go nude).

She was then clearly seen cycling on the road and pavement, clearly
posing a risk to herself and others.

Shame on you BBC.

I'm waiting for a Duhg "two types of alcohol" claim - that a minuscule
amount of motorist alcohol will render a car driver unfit to drive for the
next three years, but several pints of cyclist alcohol will still allow a
cyclist to ride with perfect care and attention, and without posing a risk
to anyone.

It's not even classed as land. It's that far out from anywhere it's classed
as "international waters", which AFAIK have no drink drive limit.

The thought of the crew of a supertanker being drunk isn't a nice
thought at all...

And IIRC it has happened...

Toomtard's question was about the drink *drive* limit though. As cars don't
go on water... ;-)

I agree, a supertanker under control of a pisshead is not a good thought. I
suspect it happens more often than we hear about though. I'm not sure if
there is a set limit for them not having ever needed to know..

Wow, one complaint out of the millions of people who watch the show.

There is and it applies in international waters too. There was a
supertanker Captain who got done for being pissed a year or so ago when
he ran his tanker aground.

If he was in international waters it must have been a very tall rock.

What proof do you have that there was gin in the gin & tonic someone
was purported to have drunk while making an amusing TV programme?

Oh, I've just realised - you do actually believe everything you see on
TV

There are a lot of tall rocks out there. some are actually tall enough
to poke out the water even at high tide.

Rockall being quite well known. Though as that rock is an island and
annexed by the UK it's not in international waters.

What - the Health and Safety obsessed BBC allow Top Gear set up a situation
like a caravan fire and of the the guys rush in despite the "gas
cannisters" or a race somewhere in a 200mph supercar but the diesel Range
Rover camera car getting ahead of it to get the tracking shot - and Its not
ALL true ?

Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!

AIUI the north pole is baically ice (frozen water) so cars can "go" on
water.
It is the south pole which has a land mass covered by ice. So
technically
the car was on the (Artic) ocean
