Lewisham
Looking at a genealogy site, I entered the name Bollen & London as a
search.
The records only show up to about 1928, but the name Bollen shows up a
few times for the parish of Lewisham.
I make no comment on this but it is a fact.

Is it possible that some villages in Germany and the Netherlands had a
corresponding loss of their idiots over the same period?

Chlorine was added to the gene pool a few years back. The fact that Bollen
only shows up a few times proves that the cleansing process is working well

If you are brave enough, then have a look
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
Enter the name Bollen as a surname into the relevant box, don't entr
any christian name or any dates or counties etc.
It throws up (pun intended) quite a few members of the clan Bollen.
The family would appear to originated in the southern counties of
England - well before 1837. There are a few examples of the name in
Bradford in 1838 and one in Greenwich in the same year!!
There is an Ann Bollen shown as dying in Islington in 1929 - could
this be Duhngs granny - I thinkwe should be told.
The database is not yet complete, but rest assured, I shall keep a
lookout for the birth enrty of our Douglas

Could the name be a corruption of a well-known family name from farther
out into Kent (down Hever Castle way) - "Boleyn"?

If one looks at Anne's lineage there is an alternative spelling of "Bullen"
until the family started coming up in the world and seemed to have adopted
the more stylish spelling. So, is it not more likely that "Boleyn" is a
gentrified version of a rather more common Bollen/Bullen?

She had an extra tit, allegedly. I believe it was called Douglas.
