Drivers now charged almost £2 a litre as one in four petrol stations face running out of fuel
Still too cheap but more realistic though.

"Petrol station bosses were accused of profiteering yesterday after it
was revealed that a garage was charging up to £2 a litre at the pumps.

The astonishing price - which equates to £9 a gallon - came on the
fourth and final day of a strike by Shell tanker drivers.

The AA said that the walkout, which could begin again on Friday, had
caused widespread shortages and long queues at petrol stations..."

No-one ran out round here. No queues. No extortionate price increases
(due to the strike, at least...) Maybe we're just better prepared up in
the North East?

I didn't panic buy fuel and somehow made it through the strike using
only 1/8th of a tank in the 306 and a third of a tank in the Vectra
despite having a family day out at the weekend.

Good morning Doug (and the other Doug).

Second cut and paste of the day, thanks.

Of course it's profiteering and will not last. I note the artical says
the price is astonishing yet you maintain it's too cheap. What is a
realistic fuel price in Dougworld?

Oh look, another car thread from Doug (who may or may not be Bollen) who
claims never to start car threads but does so several times a day.

Something I would report to Trading Standards if I lived in the area.
However, I've not seen any increases around here and had no problems filling
up on Sunday.

The article should, however, make even you ask a few questions about the
accuracy of your favourite newspaper. For example, how do they make seven
percent of petrol stations, which they report as the number of stations that
have run out, into the one in four of the headline? They also quote the
offending petrol station owner as claiming that people are buying 'hundreds
of pounds' worth of petrol instead of the usual '£5 or £6'. Even a newspaper
reporter should question the disparity in those figures, even at his
inflated prices, unless there was a queue of people with tanker trailers
behind their cars in the forecourt at the time.

Haven't done business with them since I was a kid. Their problems
haven't affected me any differently to the rest of Joe Public.

Why? Whats worth reporting is the fact that in my area, they're all the
same price and put their prices up exactly the same at the same time
even though they've not had a delivery.

They used to say £5 a gallon. Now that is here they're saying perhaps
£10 or £15 a gallon...

It could be a breach of The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading
Regulations, which include a general ban on conduct below a level which may
be expected towards consumers. However, it is very new legislation, it came
in on 26th May, and there is no case law yet to decide exactly what that
means.

But, the goods news is that, on the "jobs for the boys" and "turkeys who
won't for Christmas" front, the State may well be employing a few
thousand more people reliant upon the public purse to research and then
enact this latest bit of legislation.

How is upping the price of a scarce commodity with a high demand
unexpected or against the premises of capitalism?

When Doug goes on about the billions in profit (and its effect on the
planet) made by big business the dross here (and you know who you are :)
are very quick to defend big business, profit motive etc. and slag off the
scroungers etc.

BUT when a garage attempts to reduce demand as supply may be limited or
even maximise its profit in the short term the "girls" and the IT nerds go
appoplectic

Nice to see clarity of thought and consistency - LOL

To be serious though - You come across as getting really angry wth people

I suggest your master plan of posting here several times a day, threatning

Well, Timmy, your master plan of making yourself look like a complete
