Alternative London, 1982
Pick up your old copy of "Alternative London", 6th edition, edited by
Georganne Downes, 1982.
Look at the back of the title-page. Fourth in the "with contributions
from" section is, tadaaa, a person called Doug Bollen. Maybe he did
the stuff on microcomputers.
Note to the other Doug. I wasn't looking for the name. It just popped
out and I couldn't let it lie.

So Bollen was an old hippy too, just like 'our' Doug? The coincidences
keep piling up.
As you may know, the original author of Alternative London, Nicholas
Saunders, was also the founder of "Neal's Yard" in Covent Garden, home
of all manner of hippy shit from aromatherapy and homeopathy to muesli.
The spiritual home of all things Duhg.
Saunders also discovered MDMA in later life and wrote the book E for
Ecstasy. I don't know if Duhg followed that particular path - but the
thought of a sweaty gurning Duhg hugging everyone in sight is too awful
to contemplate. It might explain some of the memory loss (in addition to
old age).
Incidentally, Saunders had a very posh background. He was the son of Sir
Alexander Carr-Saunders, director of the LSE. He tried to blow up his
school chapel at Ampleforth - although he was quite relieved when the
bomb failed to go off apparently. He was also a squatter before it
became fashionable.
Georganne Downs, editor of your edition, is the Countess of Uxbridge
apparently.
Who knows, Bollen might be a descendant of Baldrick.

Story of Duhg's life.

While we're on the subject of historical research, I think I've found
the first recorded use of the name "Duhg" for Doug Bollen on Usenet.
Well, it's the earliest archived one anyway. It was on 2 Novermber 1997
and the author was Paul Friday:

So no excuses for your behaviour Ed?
You re\ally believe its fair to pick on Doug loads of times every day just
because you disagree with him (and lets be honest you by default disagree
agree with most governmentsm most scientists), for people to tell him (via
messages here) that they're outside his house and you to post his details
here all the time - hoping to instigate further "action" against him - what
do you want ?
Do you wish someone to go round his house and beat him up or destroy his
property?

I can't document anything but I've been around this ng since about 1992
in one form or another and I can't remember Duhg being anything but
daft. We've lost one or two along the way, but some people just keep
coming back.

Besides, you have done far worse to Steve Firth than anyone in this

How does one "disagree agree" with anything?
What is your mother tongue, Toomy? It doesn't appear to be English.

I have NEVER threatened Duhg or anyone else on this newsgroup. If you
are going to keep making allegations that you can't back up, it seems
perfectly reasonable to conclude that you are a liar.
>My pointing out "discrepancies" about the Mr firth collective is

Pointing out the many hilarious inconsistencies and inaccuracies in
Duhg's posts (and yours) hardly constitutes threatening behaviour.
And would you care to state how the republishing of information that has
already appeared on Usenet constitutes an offence?

Well, that's a fine example of how to respond when someone catches you
out, isn't it, Mr "Do as I say, not as I do"?
I'm still waiting for the URLs of these posts that you claim I have
written, stating that I have been outside Duhg's house, what his garden
looks like, what his house looks like, the number plate of the car
parked nearby etc.
Alternatively, how about being man enough to admit you made a mistake

Indeed, I should be interested to see *any* post saying any of those
things. I am aware of only one, from several years ago, where someone
claimed to have paid a visit to a certain house in Catford.
Methinks Toomtard is lying, yet again.

I know the address that's been posted in this group many times, and
backed up by various websites that have had their urls posted. But I
would no more think of heaving a brick through the window of that
address than of anything else. Even though he claims not to be the

As I say in some places, I tend not to stab people in their sleep.

When the domain name is very closely related to the email address you

There is also another subtle clue given when a search on Nominet (or
another relevant registry) reveals that a domain is registered by Doug
Bollen of that address in Catford.

Oh, ffs, Duhg... Just because you're so stupid that you wouldn't twig a
similarity between "jagmad@" and "jagjag.org", doesn't mean that
everybody else is.
Still, I could be tempted to believe that whoever did register the domain
is not you and is completely separate from you, since you've not passed
the message on to them about their breaches of the domain registration
requirements. Either that or you're so thick that you still haven't
actually got it registered in a real name, and they still haven't figured
out how to suppress the postal address from being publicly available.
Hmmm. I know which is more likely. Let's hope nobody complains to the
registrars, eh?
Interesting that the jagjag.org site which you deny any link to (apart
from using it as hosting) provides a prominent link to your "UK Radical
Campaigns" site that you and Mr Bollen share.

I bet you can't guess the registrant details for jagjag.org can you?
OK, I'll put you out of your misery 'cause I realise you're just dying to

I shall attempt a translation of the above: "I was lying, and am
therefore unable to provide any links to back up what I said".
There, that's clearer.

About the late nineties early 2000's (can't remember the exact date)
The electoral roll in the nearby reference library confirmed a
D.Bollen at that address, a matter of public record available to all
on request.

No, Toomy, I'm still waiting for the the URLs of these posts that you
claim I have written, stating that I have been outside Duhg's house,
what his garden looks like, what his house looks like, the number plate
of the car parked nearby etc.
I look forward to you either backing up your claims or being man enough

Which just happens to be the same address as is cited in the Jupiter Ace
article we've all seen many times before written by Doug Bollen.

But it can't be, unless Doug Bollen moved out after writing that article and
the Doug who posts on here and says (quite categorically) that he isn't
Bollen moved in very soon after.
Of course, there is another possibility but that would mean that the Doug
who posts on here and says (quite categorically) that he isn't Bollen is in
fact, Doug Bollen. But then that would make the Doug who posts on here and
says (quite categorically) that he isn't Bollen, a liar. And we all know how
true that would be don't we?

It bears slightly more resemblance to the English language - at least, at

The words used and their order are the same as most people, it's the meaning
which occasionally differs. The meaning is whatever Doug wants them to mean
at the time he says them. That might change later.

Ah, so it's similar to HumptyDumptySpeak in some ways?

I'm open to correction but I understand that Humpty Dumpty learnt his

Wrong again, as usual. 'Jag' is widely used, mainly because it is easy
to enter on a mobile. Try googling jag why don't you. I never cease to
be amazed at the ignorance of motorists on this NG. They must live in
a little car obsessive world of their own where common knowledge is
excluded.

I find it intriguing how often Duhg says "Wrong again" when confronted
with a truth he finds unpalatable. It's very similar to "Liar!", that
other Pavlovian response of his.

Indeed, and I can picture him (I really do wish I couldn't) sitting on the

shouting inanities in the hope that all those who ask embarrassing questions

Oh, OK. So it's pure coincidence that you and Doug Bollen both use
the name "jag", and it's also coincidence that you posted a link
belonging to Doug Bollen. Riiiight.
Christ, Dung must think we are all as stupid as he is.

Yeah, right, Gollum.
Your pathetic attempts to deny being Doug Bollen are becoming
increasing risible. Give it up, why don't you?

Why are you trying to deny that you are Doug Bollen? Is there something in
your past that he doesn't wish to be associated with?

According to the electoral roll there is only one occupant of the
famed address in Catford, his name is recorded as D Bollen therefore
it can't be doug, he must live elsewhere, probably is flat mates with
MrNatural and all the others.

As a friend of mine said some long time ago, not seeing someone's face
depersonalizes the whole concept of violence. Which was his
justification for opposing nuclear weapons. Pretty far fetched if you
asked me. He said he preferred a knife and it had to be from the front.
