Tip: if you're paying by card, their card validation will fail your
transaction if your postcode has spaces in it. Remove the spaces and
there's more chance of it going through.

My firs SMSListo credit lasted forever (it seems)
Unfortunately it wouldn't allow an automated top-up but the time 10 Euros lasts
for short UK mobile calls is brilliant. More so if the account was set up as
an American (outside Europe) account as there's no 19% German VAT applied.

That is very interesting. I would have thought that it would have
picked up the IP - or are you saying that you were physically outside
Europe?
In the case of the Betamax companies, considering the handling charge
and the 19% VAT, I look at the non-VAT Euro cent prices and they are
about equvalent to the real cost in pence.
SMS Listo is good if you want to use it for texts but the downside is
one less month of free calls than justVoip

No, Betamax just uses the country of your location when you initially set-up
the account from what you tell it.
I haven't been successful in changing country of an existing account, which is
why I set up the new smslisto account as a USA country of origin.
I wouldn't have bothered, being a VAT registered company, but the VAT should
not be applied at source as I can't claim back VAT charged in an EU country.

One less month free calls?
Nope.
It's the same as cheap.com
i.e. 90 days when you buy credit.
No doubt the same betamax rules will apply as with voipcheap.com whereby free
days never expire.
I am still running off voipcheap "free days" for all landline calls as they had
built up to 360 free days.
No doubt my smslisto account will build up to the same level with a few more
top-ups as & when required.

Easier to not give it to them in the first place.

Update on that... I have now been able to make another top-up while there was
still 12 Euro's credit and was given the option to ad "auto top up"
So now everything is pretty much perfect.
