Bigfoot email problems
Hi,
Is anyone having problems with Bigfoot emails not being forwarded properly?
A couple of friends who've used Bigfoot for some years have both reported
that they've had no emails since last Thursday. Checking their Bigfoot
webmail Inbox and Spam Folder reveals nothing (ditto their ISP's).
And I can't trace Bigfoot's service status page.
TIA

No problems that I'm aware of, and I've also been using Bigfoot
for a number of years.

Yes, several e-mails I was expecting failed to arrive (on Saturday
19th and Wednesday 23rd). I couldn't work out what the problem was.
At first I thought it must be something to do with Bigfoot (and now
I'm starting to think so again), but my suspicion then moved on to
the next link in the chain of redirection that I use, when I sent a
test e-mail to myself and it bounced with this error message (I've
replaced certain identifiers with 'X's):
X-Failed-Recipients: XXXXXXXX@idnet.com
Auto-Submitted: auto-replied
From: Mail Delivery System
To: XXXXXXXX@bigfoot.com
Subject: Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender
Message-Id:
Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2008 14:05:33 +0100
X-SpamPal: PASS
--------
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
XXXXXXXX@idnet.com
This domain is not hosted here
This suggested that Bigfoot had forwarded the e-mail correctly to my
XXXXXXXX.org.uk domain, but this had failed to forward the message to
my XXXXXXXX@idnet.com address. Now I'm even more confused. All the
other test messages I sent (whether via BigFoot or not) eventually
arrived OK, and I concluded that the problem, whatever and wherever
it was, must have been temporary. But all those tests were done on
Monday 21st (I had definitely lost several e-mails on Saturday 19th,
and needed to know why); and at least two more messages went missing
on Wednesday 23rd; and now you're reporting other Bigfoot users as
having problems since Thursday 24th! I'm more and more confused ...

As an update to this, one of my friends has just had a slew of emails arrive
this morning, most sent over the course of the past few days. Analysing the
headers at the excellent www.levinecentral.com/mail_parse/default.aspx
suggests that the delay is entirely within BT/Yahoo's mail servers (both
friends' ISP).
The odd thing is that emails sent directly to their BTInternet email address
get straight through, so I wonder whether BT (or possibly more likely Yahoo)
is hobbling Bigfoot emails...

Did you read the previous posters reply ?
It actually looks like it was a bigfoot problem

Yes, I did. It was not, however, relevant in my colleagues' circumstances,
as they had not seen any bounced emails
> It actually looks like it was a bigfoot problem
Not in the case of either of my colleagues: the parsed headers from the
emails that eventually showed up indicated that the emails had spent around
1-5 minutes on Bigfoot's servers and 1-3 days on BT/Yahoo's servers.

I use Bigfoot addresses for everything. I haven't received any
e-mails for days.
When I send e-mails directly to the addresses to which Bigfoot
is /supposed/ to be forwarding, they all arrive instantaneously,
but when I send test e-mails to any of my Bigfoot addresses,
they don't arrive at all (or at least they are delayed by days).
It looks as if Bigfoot really has gone tits-up.

Oh! I must check the website when I've finished in the shed.

In case you are wondering, it is a Bigfoot problem. They have at last
admitted it.
They are a shambles and always blame end user ISPs instead of
admitting their own failures.
