Has the penny dropped ?
My broadband speed has for some time not been as good as it used to be i.e.
3.4mb in 2006 - 1.8mb 2008
Nothing I have done - report faults try different router changed ISP , new
operating system etc etc nothing has made any difference.

Today I clicked that every time you switch of your router , as I did every
time that I was not using my PC, the exchange thinks you have dropped your
connection through noise or whatever and adjusts your speed down to
compensate......Can it be that should I leave my router connected all the
time then my speed would be set higher until noise took over and
automatically set my connection at that rate.....or am I totally ready to be
committed.

Yes you should keep router on 24/7 especially if you have an adaptive rate
(MAX) product so that the DLM can optimise your line-speed.
That said, DLM should ignore the occasional disconnect, after all,
many users are still using modems powered by the USB port of their PC.
Are those speeds you quoted sync speeds reported by your router or
through-put reported by a speed checker site?

Can you post your routers stats page?

Thanks for the reply...

I do not have sinc speeds reported by my router ...there is no such setting.
(Belkin F5D 7632-4) but I do have a stutus page which is as follows:-

System Date and Time Current Time July 27, 2008 5:03:05 PM

Version Info Firmware Version AR.0.01.08UK (Oct 27 2004 01:03:29)

Boot Code Version V1.0A Hardware Version R01

Serial Number S502002515 Internet Settings

ADSL Status CONNECTED Data Rate
Downstream/Upstream 1696Kb/448Kb

Connection Type PPPoA WAN MAC Address 00:11:50:47:81:E1

WAN IP 81.132.143.0 Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0

Default Gateway 217.47.109.250

Primary DNS Address ns7.bt.net

Secondary DNS Address bcn.customer.bt.net

Interface Status Connected Link Status 100Mbps

Full Duplex LAN MAC Address 00:11:50:47:81:E1

Router IP Address 192.168.2.1

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 DHCP

Server Enabled Number of DHCP Clients 0

WLAN Settings Wireless Function Enabled

WLAN MAC Address 00:12:bf:00:d2:4d

Mode Mixed (11b+11g)

SSID ETDNET ESSID

Broadcast Enabled Channel 11

Security Enabled

Advanced Features UPnP Enabled

NAT Enabled

Firewall Enabled

The speeds given in my original post were given using speed checkers and
also download speeds given by my router. The data above shows my router
connecting at 1696kbps. Given that my router is approx four years old and
works fine is there any mileage to be gained by buying a new one if this is
the case what should I look for...?

Thanks again....
