Pipex billing problem - who to contact?
Hi.
After some problems with my Pipex broadband earlier this year they offered
me two free months, which was enough for me to decide to stay with them - at
least for the two months! That the two free months would start straight away
was again confirmed in a separate phone call to a different Pipex employee.
After a couple of months they were continuing to charge me so I again called
them. After the customary wait I got through to their accounts
department/call centre and they confirmed that my records show I'm entitled
to two free months. I pointed out that this should have already happened and
so must be actioned immediately, so I should not get a charge for July (due
about a week after the phone call).
Surprise surprise I have been still been charged for July. It now seems
perfectly reasonable that they should actually refund me the charge for two
months.
There doesn't seem much point calling them to be strung along for a fourth
time, so any idea who I should contact please?
Cheers.

system changed earlier this year, they ALSO promised £10 credit which
I never saw, gave up and left all together, with sky now, pipex are in
my experienc totally incompetent

Well no one in any other company or on a newsgroup has access to your
account at pipex or your bank details.
I can't believe you would ask such a daft question.

Say no more, Tiscali have a terrible reputation. They refuse to acknowledge
a
problem in order to not be accused of not fixing it!
They couldn't even employ engineers that knew about traffic shaping so they
ended up blocking access to their own news server amongst other things.
This happened when they cut the bandwidth to save money.
They usually fixed problems within 3 days if it was hardware as their
engineers didn't have a clue what to do. For a whole week they were routing
people via Italy down a restricted bandwidth of dial up speed.
The company is a mess as the engineers must have bluffed their way in to the
job - they are absolutely useless. Even their forum is censored. Take a
look
at all the complaints.

Thank you Graham.
Does anyone know the details of someone senior at Pipex that I could write
to? I think threatening them with trading standards would be a good idea.
Unfortunately the Pipex website only allows you to report technical faults
and I can't see an appropriate email or postal address to use.
Cheers.

Its historic information from Graham, quite a few years old.
Plusnet no longer have anything to do with Tiscali. They are now a BT
subsiduary, though appear to be run at arms length and not integrated with
BT's own Broadband offerings.

Re: Pipex billing problem - who to contact?
The question is: Pipex billing problem - who to contact?
The answer is: Another ISP as a new customer.

Do you pay by DD? Cancel it. Have you got your card on file? Call them
tell them to remove it. Tell Pipex you want to pay by cheque. You are
then in control of payments. Don't pay for two months.
Thereafter you can pay manually by phone, set up a DD, move to another
ISP, contact trading standard, wear frilly knickers etc.

Vote with your wallet, that's all these shiddy ISP's understand.
The whole point of long term DD contracts is to lock you
into what is often a poor service for the duration of the contract,
threaten you if you try to leave before the contract expires,
and use a script driven premium rate call centre overseas,
where the script for all problems starts "Reinstall your
operating system."
Go for an ISP that offers monthly contracts, they have to
give a decent service, and have a responsive customer
service team, both for billing and technical. They are
also more likely to get BT to fix faults than some guy in
India.
