Yet *Another* Tiscali Rant!
Hi,

I left Tiscali before Christmas, "under a dark cloud!", this morning, out of
the blue, a letter arrived: "We are writing to confirm that, following your
recent request, your account for Tiscali Broadband has now been cancelled."

Thank goodness for that, only it's *been* cancelled six months now (I've
been with Plusnet since at least Jan/Feb[i]).

"We'd like to thank you for your custom and hope to welcome you back in the
future."

Tiscali, you would have to be the last ISP on the planet before I thought
about coming back anywhere near you!!!

Idiots! :

[i] Can't recall the exact date I joined Plusnet (sometime Jan/Feb time)
but they have been great!!

They've probably just told their billing computer you're no longer a
customer. Look out for a final bill covering January to present in
the post. :)

I only ever read bad things about Tiscali, however, according to their
website, they were voted "number 1 for customer satisfaction" in a
survey last year. Perhaps that says more about broadband providers in
general than Tiscali in particular.

It's a comment on joe-six-pack, no more, no less. :(

Plusnet went through a bad patch during which I left them. They simply couldn't
or wouldn't fix a fault that tokk an BT on-site engineer 15 mins when called out
by Idnet. And guess what ? Plusnet went bad when they teamed up with Tiscali !

They seem to be much better again now they're under the BT umbrella.

I used Tiscali for a couple of years, it was OK at first. The last few
months they went seriously downhill. I had no ADSL for 3 weeks, then they
totally messed up my house move. In the end, I got a MAC code, gave it to
the postoffice and got postoffice broadband. It was set up on the day they
said, and it's worked faster (2mb on tiscali, I'm getting 6mb with
postoffice) ever since. Very pleased with the Postoffice, and they give you
a half decent netgear router too.

Re: Yet *Another* Tiscali Rant!
Tiscali are looking for a buyer at the moment which means they are trying to
maximise user numbers and minimise investment i.e better equipment, support
etc.

Thats probably why they told my friend on 2Mbps fixed service that 'you
cant get ADSLmax' despite the line checkers reporting a likely 6mpbs
service...

Pretty much the same situation that Plusnet found themselves in, when
service went downhill rapidly, until they were bought out by BT.
Thankfully, since then, Plusnet have had money pumped into their service by
BT and have recovered their position as a very reliable - and competitive -
provider.

Same here, left Tiscali, joined plusnet at the same times as you.

I'm VERY happy with plusnet... it just works. And when I rang then for
assistance on a router setting they got me sorted in 2 minutes - not
like Tiscali who'll happily keep you on hold for 40 minutes.

Tiscali tried to keep billing me so I complained and the girl helpfully
deleted my payment details so there was no way they could take any more
cash. Then they threatened me with legal action for not paying. They are
dunces... every one of them.

It can work teh other way..no names, no pack dril etc, but a case exists
where a customer talking to tech support at a certain ISP said 'can you
upgrade my service to increase download allowance '..'er yes it seems I
can' said the harrassed techie.

The technical screens now report he is on a 10GB/month service: Sadly
the accounts department have no knowledge of teh upgrade ;-)

This is another data-point towards confirming my theory that `in order to
always look good, you just have to be big'. You won't even be _asked_ to
fill in a customer-satisfaction survey for Tiscali. The huge number of
satisfied customers will make them look good, and the unsatisfied customers
upped and left and don't matter. There'll be another customer along in a
minute.
