Yeah, but the program to do that is not going to sit in a standard 1k
ZX81, is it smart arse ;-)

BT landline ceased - or is it?
Canceled my BT account a few weeks back and
yesterday, the agreed termination day, they cut
me off. Well, I've still got a dialing tone, but
can't receive incoming or make outgoing calls and
my broadband account is still active. Is this normal?

It's normal (ish). You have 'soft' dialtone - won't bore you with they
why's of it.
The broadband is a product supplied over a telephone line - that is on
top of it. It can work with the line being electrically 'dead'. Your
broadband will probably stay active whilst it is still in contract. The
Broadband provider is not necessarily the same as the voice provider.
I've been gone from BT for a while, so I'm not sure if they now leave the
jumpers in for broadband (thus you will have sync but probably no
service) or if they still cease them. Kraftee will be along in a minute
or two and will be able to clarify that.

Ruth - The broadband usually stops working a few days after the line
cease (soft dial tone) has completed, as the jumpers are taken out at
the exchange but as this is a manual activity it's not done straight
away.
