VIRGIN on the ridiculous
Super slick email today.

Telephone prices up........billing moving to per minute......and
(right at the end as a BTW) connection charge going up to 7p.

Fortunately I have a plan........to leave them.

VM are rotten from top to bottom at least on the residential
accounts side of things my residential account is gone from tomorrow
never to return .
I have no quibble with our business account up to now if service goes
down it is repaired within a matter hours not days customer service
and technical support staff are very polite and more to the point
knowledgeable . Also they are very quick to offer compensation when
a fault does occur and also to call customers when a fault as been
rectified one wouldn't think it was the same company that was
supplying both services .

Forget to say, this slick email was mostly about the benefits of a new
improved billing system. The price rise was mentioned almost an
appendix.....

It's rather amusing that NTL changed their name to Virgin Media (if I
understand correctly) because the name "NTL" had come to be associated
with atrocious customer service. They've apparently done nothing to
address those issues since the name change, with the inevitable result
that they've dragged the Virgin name down to the NTL level.

And have achieved absolutely nothing by changing their name.

Erm, these two parts seem to contradict each other:

"Calls to other numbers (such as international numbers, 0845 numbers
and mobiles) are also changing. They'll be charged at either daytime
or evening rates, seven days a week. (There will no longer be a
different weekend rates for these types of calls).

Calls to 0845 numbers will be charged 6p per minute, no matter What
time of the day you call."

6p/min seems very expensive.

And:

"Our international rates are also changing. For example, a daytime
call to France will now cost 28p per minute."

Is Virgin Media trying to get rid of its non-Cable customers?

My bills for the business account always come on NTL/TELEWEST
headed paper with " part of the virgin media group" in very small
letters at the side like as if they don't want to be associated with
VM :))) .

Remember when Hewlett Packard was associated with high end
spectrum analysers etc. rather than cheap inkjet printers?

Re: VIRGIN on the ridiculous
VirginMedia is the name facing Joe Public.

Business users are dealt with by NTL/Telewest Business

National Transcommunications Ltd was the name used when the IBA
Engineering Dept was privatised in 1990. CableTel of the USA 'backed
into' NTL in 1996 but retained the name.

In 2005 the broadcast business was ring-fenced as NTL Broadcast and sold
off to a venture capital buyout (Macquarie Bank of Australia plus
others) in 2006 to become Arqiva - note no U.

Re: VIRGIN on the ridiculous
"> Is Virgin Media trying to get rid of its non-Cable customers?"

Unlikely , they are likely working on the basis that an "X" amount
increase in revenue from people who dont notice or care and do nothing
will more than increase the profit margins even though there is
X amount of people who leave.

Virgin work heavily on a marketing approach , i think there sales teams are
highly targetted , and constantly , constantly launch "New Exciiting
packages " yawn !
in which the price doublkes at the end of the promotion , very annoying so
if
you want to be a virgin customer you need to be "ACTIVE" customer chasing
them for best
price otherwise you fall into their top prices which are ...virgin on the
ridiculas

They might even turn up on site within less than an hour.

Including having no issues with using a customer provided mobile number
to call back on.

In a sense it dosn't appear to be since the business side still call
themselves NTL or Telewest. Even though the hardware is exactly the same
and typically both business and residential.

Except annoy former Telewest residential customers by reducing the level
of "customer service". With such "features" as "You have to pay, to call
someone in India, to report a fault with our hardware."
They also managed to get Sky One, Sky News, etc removed from their cable
TV service.

IMHO they have "achieved" plenty...
