Problem with caller display on new phone
I've just purchased an Opticom Speakerphone 310 from Argos. The phone
works ok, but the book says that it will display the caller's number,
or if in its phone book, it will display the callers name and number.
My phone doesn't display any number or name when anyone calls. Also
the display is supposed to show numbers for "Total" and "New" but the
guide book doesn't explain what these are, and they are always on
"000". It seems to me the phone is faulty, but I cannot find any more
detailed manual on the internet, nor manufacturer website. Or is the
caller display subject to purchasing another service from my supplier
(Talktalk)?

Have you got caller if enabled on your line (it's free if you make
enough calls via BT to qualify for BT Privacy)

Ah, £1.50 per month then.

The Argos catalogue "Quick Guide" used to include "Caller ID subject to network connection and charges" but they dropped that item last year. Caller ID is now mentioned for various corded phones but not explained.
If your line rental is still with BT or you can return then 2 chargeable calls a month (prefixing with 1280 if necessary) will give you 'free' Caller ID (BT Privacy).
