BT Budget Account - Indian Brick Wall!
Ok, I've just come back to BT, someone obviously did a
lobotomy on me in my sleep, anyway...

When I was with them previously I had a budget account, some
months I hardly use the phone and spend less than £1 on calls,
other months I can spend £20 - £30 on calls, so the bills
didn't come in huge I just used to pay a fixed fee of £20 a
month, if it ever got too much in credit I could just ask for
a refund.

I said budget account to the guy in Mumbai and he couldn't
understand me, he kept thinking I was trying to tell him about
my budgie *sigh* I gave up in frustration, anyone know what
they've changed the name of it to, or have they given up with
it all together now? I used to think it was one of the best
things about BT, no nasty surprises and easy to budget the bill.

Also....BT Charge cards, have they gone out of the window now
or does anyone know where I can get one of these from?

Cheers guys!

Certain accents can be hard to comprehend and my tactic is to phone again
until I strike lucky with another operative.

I wouldn't bother. Calls are priced so high to ensure no-one asks for
one, if they're still available for new supply.

The call home only one though is ideal, it's cheaper than that
0800 Reverse, the charge card calls only used to cost about
50p max for someone to ring and say I'm here, please come and
get me!

I'd still really like some if anyone knows where I can get
them from, or, failing that, a calling card provider where you
can pay monthly by direct debit and set the numbers that can
be called.

cheers!

There are still a few post pay CCs still left you can pay by DD

check out
http://www.magsys.co.uk/telecom/residx.htm

1899.com for non-BT lines (indirect) Postpay, has 020 and 0808
access numbers
http://www.1899.com/
http://www.magsys.co.uk/telecom/tarifres9.htm

Localphone prepaid residential could be worth a look at as well
http://www.magsys.co.uk/telecom/tarifres16.htm

1899 has been around a long time and has a good reputation

Get your own 0800 number then? I did that for when my wife worked
somewhere that only had a payphone - Saved money and having to look for
change.

I have one of these

http://www.world-telecom.com/products/gcc/index.html

that I use for such situations. It's not cheap but it does the job and
they don't really care if you don't use it for months (or in my case
sometimes years) on end..!

I last used it to call back home from the US and it cost me about a fiver
for three or four short calls.

I have had a BT chargecard** for the best part of 20
years. Useful in dire emergencies if my mobile
doesn't work and I have no cash I suppose.

**Well not the card itself, I committed the account
no. and pin to memory years ago.

This is great !!!

Go to the residential customers option, then look at "Find out more about
calling cards". Under Laptop User guide, it tells you that you can use the
card to make data calls to get "viewdata services" !!!

Does this mean BT still run Prestel ? If only I could find my 1200 baud
modem and acoustic coupler !
