Unlimited Weekend or Unlimited Evening & Weekend with new line?
I'm planning on taking up BT's offer to connect my line for £29.99,
which requires me to sign up to an 18 month contract.

As far as I can tell, I'll pay the same (£10.50/month with DD and
paperless billing) whether I choose the Unlimited Weekend or Unlimited
Evening & Weekend package, as the latter is free if you sign up to a
12 month contract.

Is there anything that I'm missing here?

Probably! The information quoted here (by Sunil, I think) about the £29.99
connection offer did not mention free evening calls - but quoted the
standard increased rental for the Evening & Weekend package. I guess you
can't benefit from *both* offers at the same time. You should still get free
weekend calls, though.

I think what I'll do is sign up for the Weekend package and then see
if I can get a free upgrade once I'm up and running.

Having said that, I did see something on the website about the free
Evening & Weekend package only being available at the same time as
ordering a new line, so I probably won't get it.

I don't know where you saw that! I signed up for the free Evening & Weekend
package - and I've had my line for over 30 years!

A relation, who kept the standard line rental with BT, but used
Tiscali CPS, was lured back to BT by the offer of free evening and
weekend calls. This is effectively Option 2 for Option 1 price
because her account would be credited by the price difference. Before
the move was made I contacted BT and discussed the matter. They said
that as long as the customer remained with BT for a year then the
effective monthly charge would be £10.50 and there would be free
evening and weekend calls. They said that, just prior to the year
ending, they would make contact and ask if the customer wished to
continue for another year on the same deal.

Yes, this is the deal referred to in the subject line, which has been
discussed here extensively in the past.

Although it would make little sense to use CPS when you've got this deal
(and it may even be forbidden - I'm not sure), there's nothing to stop you
using other operators (18866 etc.) via a prefix at times when BT calls are
*not* free. Many people - myself included - do this, either by manually
dialling the appropriate prefix, or by automating it with an Orchid dialler.

Thanks for all the replies. Having Option 2 would definitely be better
as then I can make free evening calls which will count towards the 10
calls per month you're required to make.

The statement that this offer was only available with a new line was
displayed when I did a test run of ordering a new line via their
website https://www.secureorder.bt.com/phone/weekendsignup/

If you select this offer, you can not proceed with the order via the
website and this message is displayed:

"If you'd like a new line with free Evening and Weekend calls on a 12
month renewable contract, please call us on 0800 121 8085 Monday to
Saturday 7.30am to 10pm and Sunday 9am to 6pm. This offer is currently
only available over the phone if you're setting up a new line at the
same time. "

But you'd then almost certainly have to pay the full installation price, and
not £30.

Oh absolutely. The full price is quoted on a page previous to that one
when going through the sign-up process on the website.

I'll ask whether I can get it when I order the £30 installation but if
they say no, I'll just try upgrading once it's installed. It's not a
big deal either way.

I'm not aware of this - "10 calls per month required" for what?

If you take advantage of the £29.99 installation offer, it's one of
the conditions:
http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Notice08_boo/SNL21-08.pdf

"2. Customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls
every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or inclusive calls per
month if you are billed monthly."
