September rainfall
Those so called "scattered showers" forecast for Friday dumped another
18.8mm of rain on us in Coventry, with the rain persistent all
afternoon and into the evening.

Although not yet half way through the month, we have already passed
100mm of rain for September in Coventry (105.0mm); it is already the
wettest September in our region since 2000 (117.8mm), though we do get
a rainfall total of over 100mm during September locally on average
once every nine years, so we were due another one soon.

With monthly rainfall records dating back to 1870, only 14 September
months have recorded more rain than 2008, and there are still 17 days
to go, though it looks as if it will be dry in the week ahead.

It may even dry out enough this week to be able to cit the grass (or
should I say sileage!) next weekend!

We only had 5.8mm yesterday but have already doubled our September
rainfall with 135mm recorded up to the 12th and zooming in on the
records set in 1994 (141mm) and the wettest 1965 (147.1mm) and still
with 18 days to go, but as you say Steve it does look dry for the coming
week.
Now that would make a nice change especially if the sun manages to
struggle it's way through all the cloud. The first twelve days have
produced just 19 hours of sunshine.
Records are 1960 to 2008.

Less than halfway through the month, and it's already the wettest since
1999, and my 2nd wettest overall (since 1983) - 126.7mm so far.

Only 21mm here in S.Essex so far in September. Just shows the regional
variations.
