September rainfall
Those so called "scattered showers" forecast for Friday dumped another
18.8mm of rain on us in Coventry, with the rain persistent all
afternoon and into the evening.

Although not yet half way through the month, we have already passed
100mm of rain for September in Coventry (105.0mm); it is already the
wettest September in our region since 2000 (117.8mm), though we do get
a rainfall total of over 100mm during September locally on average
once every nine years, so we were due another one soon.

With monthly rainfall records dating back to 1870, only 14 September
months have recorded more rain than 2008, and there are still 17 days
to go, though it looks as if it will be dry in the week ahead.

It may even dry out enough this week to be able to cit the grass (or
should I say sileage!) next weekend!

Yes, a rare forecast error on Friday. I say rare because forecast
accuracy has come on in leaps and bounds over the past ten years and
are in truth normally very reliable, at least in the short term. So
reliable that yesterday came as a surprise.

In fact, today Saturday isn't much more accurate here near Cambridge.
The emphasis was on a pleasant sunny autumn day. The day is almost
half over already and only now at 1210 BST are there the first hints
of brightness

You can all relax in a couple of days. This weather spell is due to
end around the 15th.

The next spell is somewhat different too:
15th September: 09:13. An unstable thundery spell. Lots of flash
floods.

(Well at least it will be interesting.)
