Warm at the end of this week
There's a plume a-coming, possibly to give some late-summer warmth in
the UK. This time, it will be a Spanish plume, as it's surface origins
really will be over Spain. There could be a thundery breakdown too, at
the weekend.
I think 28C is quite possible on Friday/Saturday in the UK and I was
surprised to find odds of 3/1 against. I took those and odds up to
18/1 for higher temps than that. 2nd bet of the year! Running a few
quid ahead from the last one in July. High hopes for this one!
Directly after the plume, there will probably be quite a plummet in
temps to start September. Shame it won't last, but the last week of
August may see the CET creep to average, or slightly above, for the
month. There's be some warm nights in Central and Southern England
later this week and warm days.

Re: Warm at the end of this week
Hope you're right Paul.
I could do with some hot sun on my bones after all the rain/cloud/damp.
Quite cloudy here at the moment with just the odd brief sunny interval.
Feeling quite warm and humid.

Hey you, why am I cited by Mr Wood as being the worst whinger on this ng?
**YOU** clearly ARE the winner.

5 days to go and lots of warm forecasts for the last few days of
August, in that Spanish plume. How warm will it get? Anything above
82.34F will do me nicely!

Could the plume be toppling? Off to Cirencester for work and Yorkshire
to see the family. Back for the thunderstorms? We'll see! Phil's CET
tracker is up to close to average with some warmth to come. A warmer
than average August will really pee some people off - I really can't
understand that.

Paul
Its because its not representative of "feel factor" for the vast majority of
the month. Can't you understand that? If the end of this month provides high
temperatures and rest of the month has been, say, only just, below par then
bumps up the figures so it looks as though the month hasn't been too bad at
all and then you get the usual "why are ppl whinging", like me for instance,
the so called bad boy of this ng.. Same for rain sun wind RH and whatever
else you care to pile on the statistics.
I dont give a damn as I said before about yer bloody statistics and the guy
on here (whom I forgot now who it was but maybe he can recall to remind me)
that told me to bugger (well he didn't use that expletive I added it myself)
off to the med and stop moaning, all I know is everybody, the media, press,
the grass in your gardens, the tomatoes, the budlea bushes and hanging
baskets, whatever else you care to bring into the equasion, all points to an
absolute shocker of an abysmal summer. Apart from the South West of England,
were its always glorious, so I keep seeing, especially in somewhere called
Haytor.

Its not glorious here in South Devon today, its overcast and I need
lights on in my house.
It's been a dreadful August here in South Devon, with not one day that
holiday makers could go to the beach without wrapping up with a warm
fleece.

Nah. You obviously have not been to the beach on the nice days. It
hasn't been the best of summers, but to say what you did in that last

I know it has been bad but it hasn't been that bad.
There have been a few beach days for the holiday-makers and despite the
relative lack of sunshine, I still have a good suntan.
A few of the better 'beach days' this month so far, i.e., greater than 21°C
with some sunshine are:
Max temp Sun
2nd 23.1°C 5.4 hours
6th 22.3°C 2.0 hours
8th 22.8°C 7.4 hours
21st 21.3°C 5.9 hours
22nd 21.1°C 12.4 hours
25th 23.4°C 5.8 hours
There were 4 other days where the temperature went above 20°C and there was
sunshine.
I admit, these are not the hottest of days but not a complete wash-out. I've
managed a few days down on the beach this month and have been swimming
without a wetsuit as the sea is reasonably warm now.

Fleeces are for winter not summer.
I was in Teignmouth yesterday evening (25th) and it was warm in the sun by
the harbour listening to the live music, OK not many bikinis (worst luck!)
but still quite a few in shirt sleeves and shorts (me included).
