Re: {WR} Haytor 5/7/08 (Autumn)
1815

24 hour *measured* rainfall in 5" gauge to 1800 was 50.7 mm.

AWS reading today since midnight is now 35.1mm giving an AWS event total of
49.4mm since 1600 yesterday and ...
... it is still absolutely heaving down at 3.6 mm/h with a driving F4-F5
wind. sadly some of my flowering broad beans have been flattened :-(

This is getting more serious now if this goes on as predicted, there is a
LOT of water on that higher moor believe me.
I might take a wander up top again and see what the river Lemon is doing
now, the two streams in the lane outside have now merged into one in places,
not seen that before either.

The rivers of South Devon are on flood watch now, too. 6 flood watches
in the SW. If I were living on the floodplain of a river draining
Dartmoor, I'd be getting worried and I'd be beginning to make
preparations for a flood.

If that front waves or gets re-invigorated or it stalls, we are in trouble.
Either way heavy showers are predicted for tomorrow over Dartmoor which will
fall onto very saturated ground.
I'm sure, however, the relevant emergency teams are watching this developing
serious situation closely.
1850 and wind has picked up a notch here and it did get a tad brighter but
now it is gloomy again and the rain is lashing the exposed windows
relentlessly.
