Exactly the opposite in the UK - for eons, hospitals supplied the uniform,
and laundered it. You were expected to change on arrival and before
departure - and every decent hospital enforced that.
Now that infection has finally been recognised as an issue, most hospitals
no longer launder nurses uniforms, and often do not offer changing
facilities. Virtually none make any attempt to stop staff leaving in soiled
or contaminated uniforms.
Funny old world.

Stuff we nurses have been shouting about for years -- teach the consultants
to wash their hands between patients
