Saw a 'quadruple headed' rake of diesels possibly class 92's going south
through Northampton this morning. The middle 2 looked to be in brand new
livery, 1 shiney silver, the other, black. Any ideas as to what they were?
Cheers, Phil.

Class 92s are electric, unless they have recently been fitted with
diesel engines to enrage ignorant trainspotters who get upset when
diesels operate under the wires ...
But what you may have seen is some Class 86s that have been
refurbished and repainted to be offered to open access freight
operators in mainland Europe. I cannot recall the name of the company
(someone will no doubt help me out here) but I have seen pictures of
the first Class 86 to be thus treated and it was liveried in silver.

Yes, my loco knowledge is not the best!!
The main thing was how new they looked. Could they be new 66's?

There are quite a few people here whose knowledge of Class 66
deliveries is greater than mine, but if in silver/grey, they may have
been for Euro Cargo Rail (EWS' mainland European subsidiary) or
Britain's Fastline Freight (part of Jarvis). There is another
mainland European operator who uses Class 66s in black.

Anorak and pedantry notwithstanding, I typed Class 86 because that is
what I meant to type ... !
The loco I referred to is definitely a Class 86. It is 86 247, which
I believe it came out of storage at Long Marston. The company that
owns it is Europhoenix Limited, who have been negotiating with HSBC
Rail for the purchase of over 20 other Class 86s currently in store.

Ah! After five replies, that's what we've all been waiting for - its
number!
Thanks, Tony.

86247 still very much in store. The photo on the Europhenix publicity
is digitally imposed onto 86101 I beleve.
The convoy through Northampton could have, by the sound of it, been
Class 92s heading off for work with SNCF unless they have already
gone?!

That's the penalty of taking press releases at face value. ;-)

What the OP actually saw, barring some unholy co-incidence, was a
heavily delayed Bescot - Wembley Enterprise with this lot on the front:
66104 (EWS red) + 67029 (EWS Silver) + 67006 (Royal Train claret, the
"black" one) + 92022 (Railfreight grey).
As far as I know all the French 92s are still at Brush Loughborough, and
the second batch of 87s for export are still at Crewe.

Yes, thanks very much, I think you've cracked it!
Here's another one for you! I saw 47841 on a low loader on the M25 the other
day. Where's it been, where's it going?!
Cheers, Phil.
