I wouldn't even spend 10p ringing Stagecoach to tell them that I wasn't
coming in.
Reminds me of a true story told to me by the wife of a friend who works in
admin for First at a bus depot.
One morning a driver who only had a couple of years to go booked on and
headed out on the journey to his starting point. On the way he stopped to
buy a paper and a scratch card and promptly won 50k.
He asked the owner of the newsagent if he could use his phone:
Hello, is that Oldham depot?
Yes.
Your bus is outside the newsagent on *whatever* road. You had better collect
it. Goodbye.
And thus he took early retirement.
Brian.

Actually, I probably would use 10p, but to go sick and to string it out as
long as I could.

Re: The Delights of Working on the Railways
I would think a fair few here, if they won and were relieved of the
need to hold down jobs, would take advantage of all that spare time to
go and volunteer for a preserved line.
I know I would and if that meant, at some point, I found myself on the
footplate well I would have died and gone to heaven.

I really do think that you need to go back to school. You appear unable to
string a single sentence together.
