Just a quick one is a standard cheap day return between Manchester and
Preston valid via Wigan??

Yes it is. But by a strict interpretation of the Routeing Guide, only
via Bolton and Wigan, not via Atherton and Wigan, though you're
unlikely to get in trouble for the latter.

All I can find (SX) arec 1013 Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North via
Atherton (Summer dated) and 0519 Blackpool North to Manchester Airport via
Hindley. The CDR is presumably valid on the former (as it's a through train)
but not on the latter (as it's too early).
