New Class 66's at Crewe
Last Wednesday (25th June) I was travelling from Crewe to Shrewsbury and
passed a small depot on the outskirks of Crewe where there appears to be 3
new Class 66's in a sort of grey livery. 66301 and 66304 were two of them,
anyone know what the other one was ??
Thanks in advance for any info.
Gordon.

Yes, they're Fastline Freight's new Class 66 fleet. The Railway Herald
shows them arriving at Newport Docks on 22 June and then being hauled to
Crewe by a DRS 66. They're apparently due to enter service imminently,
hauling coal for e.on to Ratcliffe power station.

New locos for Jarvis Fastline delivered by
Train 0Z27 Newport Docks - Crewe Gresty Bridge on 24 June were
66 301, 66 304 and 66 305

I continue to be impressed by how quickly Class 66s enter service, even
with a new operator. Must be the nearest thing to a plug'n play loco.

In this country, yes. But any loco of a standard design off a long
production run ought to work out of the box. I expect GE's ES44ACs in North
America do, as do Bombardier's TRAXX electrics over on mainland Europe.
