You were lucky, people are killed by pavement motorists. People who
cannot squeeze past the carelessly discarded vehicles and are forced
onto the road are in immediate extra danger. People who trip on the
pavements damaged by pavement motorists are also in danger.

People can be killed by pavement cyclists too :-

They can be. That case is one of the very few cases though [1]. That
is why it is the only one bought up when the subject is discussed.

Before condemning all cyclists as a result of this one case it is
worth reading the bits which tend to be left out of the story at
<http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2007/nov/16/2>. While none of that is
no excuse it does explain the background.

[1] Cyclists often kill no pedestrians in a year. ISTR the worst
year was when cyclists killed three. The average is less than one
pedestrian killed by cyclists in a year. Those are the total killed
by cyclists, not just those on the pavement.

There are many lethal events which individually have "very few cases".
That doesn't mean that the causative actions are proper.
