Ofcom - All hail the god
If you believe Ofcom has the best interests of Amateur Radio at heart you best
think again.

If it costs them money .... not interested.

So no UK position papers for Amateur Radio at WRC

No restoration of a once "great" "technical pursuit"

Why? There is no money in it for Ofcom

Wake up and smell the coffee.

I am no advocate of the RSGB they certainly have helped degrade the amateur
service.

Answer me this.

When the EU and CEPT proposed "protected" status for the amateur service who
opposed it.

Correct Ofcom. Theres good money in that Spectrum

If you think the RSGB are in this for Radio Amateurs - think again.

>If it costs them money .... not interested.

If it doesn't make them money, the volunteers do it.

Why not? Can't OFCOM write?

>No restoration of a once "great" "technical pursuit"

After the RSGB sank it without trace.

The RSGB's money-grabbing stance did for Amateur Radio.

Wake up and smell the revolution.

The result being what?

Are you suggesting that a portcabin-based bookseller near Bedford is
going to wag the EU dog?

In your dreams, maybe.

I never said that the RSGB was the be all and end all.
To the contrary in fact.

OK Ofcam and money.
Which part of
>If it costs them money .... not interested.
do you not understand?

Protected Status would have meant a lot.

Which part of "Are you suggesting that a portcabin-based bookseller
near Bedford is going to wag the EU dog?" did you not understand?

I never suggested this.

Your god Ofcom turned down and EU "request" for EU wide protected status.
However the EU is doing something good for a change and it will be in a future
EU Directive to which our government will have to respond with legislation.

Regulating and or policing this will cost Ofcom money.

But you said the RSGB have input to e.g. the WRC; why wouldn't they
have input to this highly-important area?

And in any case OFCOM have to follow government policy; if they were
told to dump protected status, that was a government policy not an
OFCOM whim.

Don't forget you get a chance to influence the government every four
years or so, doubtless you can make your feelings felt via the
ballot-box.

So the government stalled for time; ask them about it.

That's why they are given it.

It's the digbats who bought non approved PMR 'freebands' radio off of
ebay that are the problem now. Just listening to one on 433.075MHz
(GB3KA's output) wondering why he's being told to P*ss of the
frequency. One of the 'Kwality man' brigade.

On the output?
So the "Digbat" hasn't worked out how to add a 1.6MHz split
to his JingTong / FDC / etc. eBay HK special, yet.

No even as upmarket as a JingTong. They are cheap and nasty PMR sets
that work on 433MHz rather than the UK spec 466 MHZ

433MHz licence free sets are only supposed to run 10mw,
on as i remember 433.075 to 434.800, 70ch, simplex only
You are lucky if it's only one of them, they must live next door?

Ahhh here we are
