Amy Winehouse was electric...official...
This is a critics view from one of this mornings tabloids:-
Amy Winehouse was electric at Glastonbury. Anyone suggesting she flopped
doesn't have eyes and doesn't have ears. She is a mess. She will
probably be dead before her 30th Birthday. But Winehouse is the real
thing. No Englishwoman ever sang like that before.
Spot on...

I'm English, I'm British. Being a WASP doesn't prevent me from being
both. Neither does being a Jew.

I think the fascists' marketing people[1] are trying to promulgate
the idea of a "pure" English race. They need a "pure" race so they
can incite morons to attack non-members of it in the streets, and
the old idea of a "pure" British race never caught on much, being
absurd to anyone with the intelligence of an amoeba. Of course
being Jewish is never seen by the fascists as a very favourable
characteristic ...
[1] Fascism, being a construct of global big business, has a lot of
effective marketing experts available.

Unlikely. In Newton's time you couldn't teach in a University (and the
restriction may have extended to being a student) unless you we CoE. There
are rumours that Newton wasn't a "CoE believer" and followed some beliefs
associated with alchemy etc. but had to keep this quiet.
I came across this some time back, when I was doing some research:

Might be. But Tiny Tim sang better than our Amy does. She obviously
didn't inherit any of his singing genes or, if she did, they got
severely mutated en route.

It is only in recent years - as smoking became increasingly looked on
as the anti-social habit it always was - that firms such as BAT lost
much of the political clout they held here in Britain.
Look how long it took to ban the advertising of tobacco products close
to schools etc.
Not that I have anything against making people smoke....... Just as
long as it isn't cigarettes or tobacco. ;-)

Did you not notice that the NG is 'uk.radio.amateur' and not
'uk.amateur.radio'? On here, you get a load of radio amateurs (and a lot
of other weirdoes) discussing all sorts of things, some of which are
connected to amateur radio, and some of which are not. It's a bit like
80m. In fact, it's exactly like 80m.
And, BTW, did YOU not notice that the convention of URA is to bottom
post? All contributions are welcome (even if they are only one-line
insults), provided they are bottom posted.

ITYM that the convention of _SOME_ posters to ura is to bottom post
It is certainly true to say that the convention of ura is to top post.
The position of posting on the page is irrelevant, it is the contribution
that is important, and in that respect, one-line insults are not welcome,
even if they are blurted out by M3OSN and Mrs.Nugatory.

What is a "home 20" and what has it to do needles?
Perhaps the association with needles is something to do with CBers being
pricks?

We have a few of the new M6 in this area, when they get nattering with
the local G7 they fall back into the CB lingo. Roger D, twig, Square
Wheeled etc. are becoming part of the 2M vocabulary.

On another occasion (around a couple of years ago) I was listening to
one of the local clubs Thursday night net...so I don't get three ton of
hate mail (again) I won't use their real club name...but for sake of
argument let's make a name up and call them the "Charlie Delta's"!!..the
then chairman (an em nuthin') wished the first person to leave the net
"10-10"...realising his mistake he then went on to say - no doubt with a
red face - "we don't use it much these days maybe we (amateurs) should
use it more"!!..again I took the piss for ages...

"Roger Dodger" - a rhyming version.
"Roger" being the phonetic version of "R", the Morse cypher for "Received".
So, we came from an English word, "Received".
Abbreviated to a single letter, "R".
Took it back to a phonetic version, "Roger".
Made it Rhyming, "Roger Dodger",
... and ended up with two words which were different from the original
single word!

It stands for "Roger Dodger", the derivation of which seems to stem from a
US Army phrase "Roger Dodger you old Codger". The apophorycal story being
that it was use as a term of abuse over the radio to an incompetent officer,
and then the term stuck. It was then contracted to Roger Dodger and then to
Roger D.

Of course! Actually, I always assumed that it was 'dodger', but 'roger
dodger' is an expression I've not used (or heard) for years. I'd
forgotten it existed.

Isn't that a rip off from Catch 22 or is my medication failing? Or
was it Major Major Major?
They don't write books like that any more.

Airplane... to make it a little more understanding one of the flight crew
was called Roger... and the Captain was called Oveur...
Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: L.A. departure frequency, 123 point 9'er.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Victor Basta: Request vector, over.
Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.
Tower voice: Over.
Captain Oveur: Roger.
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: Roger, over!
Roger Murdock: What?
Captain Oveur: Huh?
Victor Basta: Who?
Seems to lose something in translation though :o(

Just found it...
Simon: Gentlemen, I'd like you to meet your captain, Captain Oveur.
Clarence Oveur: Gentlemen, welcome aboard.
Simon: Captain, your navigator, Mr. Unger, and your first officer, Mr. Dunn.
Clarence Oveur: Unger.
Unger: Oveur.
Dunn: Oveur.
Clarence Oveur: Dunn. Gentlemen, let's get to work.
Simon: Unger, didn't you serve under Oveur in the Air Force?
Unger: Not directly. Technically, Dunn was under Oveur and I was under Dunn.
Dunn: Yep.
Simon: So, Dunn, you were under Oveur and over Unger.
Unger: Yep.
Clarence Oveur: That's right. Dunn was over Unger and I was over Dunn.
Unger: So, you see, both Dunn and I were under Oveur, even though I was
under Dunn.
Clarence Oveur: Dunn was over Unger, and I was over Dunn.

I'm not just a M0 I am also a man of culture - many's the art film I
have seen in my day. I understand all the verbals in Airplane - I've
even seen the film once or twice. My suggestion is that you read
Catch 22, if you like Airplane you will enjoy it; it's much deeper
and darker but also very funny.
Charlie.
