$339 + shipping at cost IIRC.

Shipping I should imagine will be around £50.

Seems an awful lot of antenna for about £220 delivered.

I'm rather tempted...

Looks rather good, doesn't it? I'm tempted to - but cashless!

Reminds me that I still have an ancient CB "silver rod with a big wide
coil at the bottom" thingy in the shed. Might be an idea to fish it out &
try it. It was always rubbish on CB - or so the original owner told me!
Might be rather nice on 10m with a few mods...

Imax 2000, is worth a look at around about £70. I've got one up here, though
you'll need good neighbours ;-)

That's a lot of money for a CB antenna.... well, it must be CB you want it for because you don't have an amateur licence.... or are you a 10m
pirate?

Ah, the trumped up CBer reveals himself by discussing CB antennas on an
amateur radio newsgroup. Please take discussion of CB antennas to
uk.rec.radio.cb where you can discuss it with other similar numpties.

The halfwave Silver Rod is probably an excellent aerial for CB and,
suitably shortened, it certainly works well on 10m. I found I got a
better SWR with the bottom end of the tuning coil disconnected (so,
instead of being a tapped parallel-tuned circuit, it became an L-match).
I understand that, if you add 16 foot radials, it works well as a
quarterwave on 20 (although you might need a 'mop-up' ATU in the shack).

If you want to run much power, check that you have a 'real' coil in the
base, and not a printed circuit.

<sigh>

How long has it been illegal to buy an antenna, even one that covers 10m or
indeed, any antenna which covers the Amateur bands, without possessing an
Amateur Licence?

Are you really licensed, or are you making this up as you go along?

Did you do all of your Amateur Radio training in Chippenham?

What use do you have for a CB antenna? CB or 10m piracy? Or to put it
another way, are you a numpty CBer or a 10m pirate?

Lose the coil cut it for 16ft and you have a 1/4 for 20m

or extend it to 32ft and you have a 1/4 for 40m, and 3/4 for 15m

I like your second suggestion, Steve. If I get time this weekend, and the
weather is reasonable, I'll dig the thing out & have a look at it. It's
been hung up on shelf brackets for nearly 18 years (IIRC), so I bet it'll
be rather curved now!
