Blasphemy
Last week the UK Parliament scrapped the law which made blasphemy a crime.
It was last used in the 1960s, Whitehouse versus Gay News (it failed, though
I doubt that meant the jury were convinced that Jesus was a bit AC/DC).

The last time a succesful case was brought was apparently in 1922. There
was an attempt recently over the TV programme 'Jerry Springer The Opera' -
(actually it might have been the stage show), but no case was brought -
presumably it was decided that it would be a waste of court time.

Almost every speaker in the debate wanted the law to remain, and not all of
them were RC although Widdecombe et al were complaining that the wrong
signal was being sent. Funny thing that, nobody said that on the contrary
the signal is the right one.

Perhaps the new initiative by Christian MPs 'who pray together' they say,
trying to appropriate for Christianity things like being kind to children,
is a response to that law change.

Does the gay news guilty verdict (in 1977) not count then?

"1977: Gay paper guilty of blasphemy
The Gay News and its editor Denis Lemon have been found guilty of
blasphemous libel in the first case of its kind for more than 50 years."

1977 to be precise. And the verdict went against Gay News, with a savage
9-month suspended sentence for the editor.

RC has nothing to do with it. The purpose of the law was to defend the
Church of England.

Oh, I've never heard of that. Care to elaborate?

Strictly speaking it was for blasphemous libel, not blasphemy.

The magazine has published a poem about a gay Jesus. Which makes sense
if you consider that it would have been the ideal for a gay Christian.

Oh yes, blasphemous libel, my bad. But how can you libel somebody who's
been dead for many centuries?

The poem can be read here, and people can form their own opinions.

Dimwit Dave had no morals, no sense of right and wrong, wasn't
able to control his homosexual urges, drank too much, did whatever
drugs he could get his hands on, then found that he desperately
needed some imaginary sky fairy
and it's accompanying punishment for "sinful behavior" to save
himself from himself,
Now he imagines that all others must be suffering from the
same deficiencies that he exhibited
Today we find that Dimwit somehow can't fathom that we're normal and
he's the fuckin' psycho-
nutsack!

It's sad really; this poor freak was so utterly antisocial because of his
mental problems coupled with his severe antisocial personality disorder that
he had to give himself over to the control-freaks to inhibit his
dysfunctionalities: They fed his tiny uneducated mind on a diet of lies and
fantasy and indoctrinated him with the fear of unimaginable eternal
punishment until he started to act at least slightly similar to a normal
human being - It served its purpose inasmuch as he's no longer an anarchaic
sado-masochistic thug; but they didn't manage to remedy his severe mental
illnesses: In fact they probably convinced him that their god had healed
him; just like they did with a local fundy convert who went round preaching
that his god had healed him of angina for a few months before dieing of a
massive heart attack.

IMO it would have been better to have dug up the problem at the root and
eradicated it; rather than shaving all but 2 of the branches off it and
hanging an effigy of a dead man with a halo on it.

Thank you.

It's not a case that is special to just Dimwit: Note the case of the local
fundy mentioned above - People are so cleverly and totally indoctrinated by
conversion that they feel a sense of both elation, which changes the brain's
endorphin level and gives a warm glow - a bit like being totally in love
with someone and sure that they are the one and that it'll last forever - a
situation equally as fickle, plus they are so certain that they've at last
found the ultimate that they believe totally in the transforming power of
it.

These two effects together bring about a noticable change, albeit temporary,
in a person's persona as witnessed by others. The person in question also
feels like it has done them some good, and at the same time they're being
buffeted by fundys telling them that it's all from their god: The poor sod
has no option but to be totally convinced, and thus the final part of the
initial brainwashing concludes successfully: Of course the person subtly
over time returns to their old self unnoticed; but now they are under
rweligious control, they've probably abandoned and alienated all their old
friends in favour of their new "family", and they're caught hook, line, and
sinker as they're told that backing out now that they have the "truth" will
lead to alienation/shunning from the church and damnation to the eternal
fires of Hell after death - IOW they're stuck; like it or not...

But their original problems; such as mental illness and personality
disorders, whatever, still remain - noticably so too, now the the conversion
euphoria has subsided. The mask is slipping and the person knows it, but the
new convert feels that to admit it to anyone within the church would destroy
all their cred - But eventually they are forced to consult a church elder;
who tells them that maybe its due to their faith not being strong enough, or
some other crap...

The mask is fitted but the face beneath is still exactly the same, although
now regulated by a literally inescapable tight religious stranglehold on the
person's life, speech, and on their every action and thought. The lopped
branches are hidden and the effigy goes at least some way towards masking
the fact that once a tree stood there from those not looking hard enough.

Another synthetic fake derived from natural materials falls off of the fundy
production line into the collective and blends in insignificantly with the
mllions of other identical clones - But strip away the surface layer on any
of them and you'll find an individuality beneath: Individual dishonesty,
insanity, hypocrisy, and every other negative trait: Everything positive has
already been removed from them.

-------------------------------------------------------

Fundy Production Line:

Input: Incomplete or faulty human beings

Output: Brainwashed fundy clones

Waste products: Self-Image, positivity, personal pride, intellect...

Over the last 40 or more years, I've known some really fucked up
people.
Women that couldn't tell the truth if their lives depended on it (I
even married one of them), and people who were so fucked up on drugs
they'd lie cheat, steal and lost every friend they ever knew

Dimwit shows the effects of both, being both a habitual liar and
hooked on the worst drug of them all.....religion.
With a bit of will power and some methadone, even heroin addicts can
be saved, but with a religious addiction, there is NO HOPE AT ALL.
They say crap like: "I don't have a problem, and even if I did, they
my Dog will save me"
Fuckin' idiots!

Just to let people know that the BT news server has a problem by the
looks of it; so it may not be possible for me to post via OE for a
while; and I try to avoid posting via Google if possible: I can read
news on free servers but can't find a free one as a tmporary measure
that lets me send. - Anyone got any ideas?

Just to let people know that the BT news server has a problem by the
looks of it; so it may not be possible for me to post via OE for a
while; and I try to avoid posting via Google if possible: I can read
news on free servers but can't find a free one as a tmporary measure
that lets me send. - Anyone got any ideas?

Ignore that; it seems to be up and running again.

There is a group who call themselves 'Christians in Parliament'. They
have a web site. One of them is my MP, though I am not boasting about
it.

Yep, I'm with ya bro. Though I didn't marry, I still cringe at the
memory of a certain relationship. Jeezus, she could talk some crap!
Friends would take me aside and ask if I was really sure about "that
woman". I'd respond by getting angry with them, even trashing
long-standing friendships. In my defence I can only plead "hormones".
(she was a stunner)

In moments of sober reflection though, I think I've gained an insight
into the workings of the religious mind. If the brain doesn't want to
see something, it won't. We seem to have an enormous capacity for
self-deception. No amount of reasoned, common-sense debate will
penetrate. Every problem can be rationalised away. Every objection must
have an ulterior motive. I know this because I've been there.

When I look at the likes of Dave I can sometimes catch a glimpse of
myself, back when I was besotted by Bullshit-Babe, and I ask "What would
it have taken to make me see reason back then?" The answer is
depressing.

Drugs, perhaps.
Electric shock therapy.
Abduction by a team of exit-councellors.
A bullet to the back of my skull...

(sigh)

She was cute, though.

Sorry----I spelled her name incorrectly
Sharon was the daughter of a Doctor, a spoiled rich leggy looker who I
nicknamed "The Coke Monster"
She eventually stole the Mercedes and traded it for some crack, but
the cops arrested two jungle bunnies driving it (with minimal damage)
a few days later
Never saw her again, fortunately for her!

Translation:

Sharon was a high-living doctor's daughter who'd seemingly had an
overpriveliged childhood. She was a middle-class drug-addict with perfect
legs and knockout good-looks. Ken nicknamed her "The Coke Monster".
(Probably a parody of the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street.)

Eventually she stole Ken's Mercedes and sold it for crack cocaine. The
police recovered the vehicle a few days later when they noticed it being
driven by two "jungle bunnies". (Drug dealers?) It hadn't been damaged much.

Sharon and Ken never saw one another again; which was fortunate for Sharon.

- I think that's fairly accurate.

Now that the ancient religious nonsense of blasphemy has, at
long last, been removed from the statute book, is it too much
to hope that another such absurdity, the 'offence' of
consensual adult incest, will be given the boot too ?
