Any tips on bathing a cat? He's filthy and really needs a wash. Luckily
he's small enough that I can scruff him with one hand, leaving the other
free to do the wiping.

<Gulp!>

Has he got any toys? If so, put them in with him.

If you can, 'wet' him (spray) first.

Otherwise, a NBCD suit, metal gauntlets and lots of luck! Those claws are
like needles even at that age!

From experience.

Get everything ready (don't forget a big fluffy towel), make your
plan, be sure you know exactly how you're going to go about it, grab
the cat (kitten) and do it. Don't give him time to argue. Be in
charge, be his mother, who wouldn't stand any nonsense.

Use the kitchen or bathroom sink, not the bath; you'll be on your feet
and have better control. A few inches of water in the bottom will
suffice, don't try and immerse the poor little bugger. The larger the
sink the better, as you get more water for a given depth. I used a
jug for wetting down and rinsing, and then ran the taps (fillling the
jug to get the temperature right) for the final rinse.

There are two of you, aren't there? That'll make it easier, I did it
on me tod.

What really surprised me was how little cat there was underneath the
fur, once it was wet and slicked down. I wouldn't normally wash a
cat, though, but she came home all black, instead of black and white.
I think she'd been playing in a coal barn. Afterwards she sulked off
for a few minutes, then came back and demanded a cuddle.

Fill bath with several inches of warm water with detergent in. Drop cat in bath.

Apparently it was raining cats and dogs in Beijing. Which was handy,

Yup - I'm back. Was going through a bad patch, now improving. I'll try and
stop being so argumentative. It's not in my nature.

He's only 13 weeks old, so there's very little cat there anyway. Very
little but feelthy.

Ooh, there's a thought, there are some in the garden.

That would just get water everywhere without cleaning Smog.

I think training him to enjoy (or at least tolerate) baths wouldn't be
a bad thing.

I bought my dear wife a Burmese kitten for her birthday earlier this
year. Smoky. Honesty -- a cat that cost a monkey! Every morning it
watches her in wide-eyed horror as she takes her shower while he waits
to have his face and eyes cleaned. His expression suggests he's saying:
"Lookee here, missus. You don't have to get wet, you know.".

With the beginning of warm, spring days Smoky took to boisterous
rocketing around the garden and terrace: mighty bounds executed with no
thought for where or how he was going to land. We knew that it was only
a matter of time before he fell into the swimming pool. We weren't too
concerned; over the years we've had several cats and they've all taken
pearlers into the swimming pool sooner or later -- once!

Smoky eventually took the plunge with a spectacular Evil Kneival
bikeless leap and I learned why the Egyptians venerated cats. I don't
know if they can walk on water but they can certainly run on water.
Smoky shot across the surface of the pool and ran howling for my wife
for an hour's comforting and treatment with hot towels.

Last month we used the pool for first time and poor Smoky went mental,
dashing back and forth, his wonderful green eyes wide with panic, his
expression seeming to say: "Oh Christ! How the hell do I rescue you two
idiots!" He made such a fuss that in the end he got the sort of wet
cuddle that I'd been hoping for.

If there such a thing as reincarnation, I'll try to come back as a cat.

Well good luck. You have had a tetanus recently haven't you?

Our cats used to like the pond - Rosie would stand in the shallows
having a drink and Kitty would dredge the pond weed out in an attempt
to get the frogs. Mind you they also like drinking out the bathtaps
too.
There's bound to be instructions somewhere on the best ways of getting
them aclimatised to a bath.

Don't be ridiculous spin drying could kill it!

Put it in a tumble dryer for an hour on low temperature
