Lisbon Treaty Petition: the Prime Minister's response.
[xposted: urs; um]

I've just received email from our illustrious Prime Minister: it seems
to me that he has simply ignored this petition and instead has spouted
the usual platitudes; I'd be interested to hear other's opinions.

---[ email Message-Id: ]---

"You signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to "Respect the result
of the Irish referendum and abandon the attempt to ratify the Lisbon
Treaty."

The Prime Minister's Office has responded to that petition and you can
view it here:

PM: So what you are saying, Humphry, is we can make it look like we
agree but thanks to the Irish we get what we actually want?

Sir H: Yes, prime minister

He always does. I signed that one too, plus several others. Do you watch
PMQs? He's absolutely pathetic. All he does is trot out statistics. Even
David Miliband (who looks like Peter Mandleson Lite) look more charismatic.
Francis Wheen suggested that they should elect The Steve Miller Band.

I've had a few of those replies from Number 10, and every one has been the
same. A paragraph that tells you the way things are now, a paragraph that
tells you that some people don't necessarily agree with the way things are
now, and a paragraph that tells you exactly why things are going to remain
the same way as they are now.

As with practically all things governmental, it's a waste of time. Except
perhaps from the government's point of view, because , even though they're
taking no notice, they can say 'We're listening'.

Basically, it's an exercise in bullshit.

Can anyone think of /any/ of these e-petitions where the result was
anything different?

How many people do you need to propose a new petition? Can we draft a
petition worded as a vote of no confidence?

But the rest of what you have written makes absolutely no sense at all.
Perhaps you could write in your native language and get someone to
translate it into English for you?

Linz, have you ever considered appearing in a fetish porno magazine
for extremely ugly people? Or perhaps consider your medical
possibilities as a natural emetic?

I think that would be a fair comparison, knowing the two of them.

Well I've got a lot of time for Jordon, she's alright.

Mind you, it would be like shagging one of those blow up dolls there's
nothing left that's real.

But then again, my fantasy shag has always been Tin Tin from
Thunderbirds.

Bazzer Smith set the following eddies spiralling through the space-time
continuum:

> As is common on the rip-off world of today more means less

Linux users will be familiar with the concept. The utility program 'less'
has more capabilities than the earlier program 'more' that it replaced.
