PING! Tracey Emin
Hey there,
I just read an interview with you and have some
comments to make, particularly about the thorny
topic of criticism.
I would have used a group in the uk hierarchy had
there been one.
Why worry about "screwing up enough courage"
to read a review of yourself in The Telegraph?
Don't you have an agent? What else do they get
their commission for? Perhaps one of your Young
British Artist friends could Warhol a facsimile into
a posterised photo, perhaps caricaturing the chap
who penned the review in the first place, to soften
the blow?
Nobody thought of that? I certainly shouldn't want
such self-centred and inconsiderate people around
my deathbed.
Nice, and I mean nice, take on Care in The Community
though. Perhaps you ought to be more focussed on
making the art you set out to make in the first
place? After all, even in these days of social networking
with friends you'll never meet - there's only so many
conjugal visits Broadmoor will allow, I gather - the
last big thing to have faded in winter was the ting
tings, not the ping pings.
And which of those two names is more likely to leave
people with a saliva facial?
Thing is, whether it's hospitals or prisons the work
is to be displayed in, people always still prefer the kind
of stuff you find hanging on the walls of hotel lobbies and
sports centres. But then there's the details:
"...you held me in your handsome fist..."
But Suzanne Vega was ubiquitous in lobbies and lifts.
