I like *some* opera.  But really, it doesn't work just being listened
to; you need the full visual experience as well.  Some of the individual
songs are fine- I have a sort of "Opera greatest hits" CD-set that has a
bunch of arias and overtures etc, and that's nice enough, but a lot of
opera is quite dull just as music.  It's like one of those LPs with a
few good tunes and a lot of filler.
