They were fantastic. Nick Cave nearly took my head off with the mic stand
at The Venue. I barely noticed.

Sadly I never saw them live (the live DVD is fantastic), but I did see the
first Nick Cave and the Cavemen gig (thank God he dropped that name).
Blinding. Hearing his version of In The Ghetto, with Blixa Bargeld on
guitar, for the first time was a real shock.
The best gig I've ever been to (probably - a performance of John Cage's
Music Circus comes a close second. And one by AMM. And Wire, etc., etc.)
was Dave Graney, These Immortal Souls (thereby linking to the thread), and
The Gun Club. There was another group (possibly Ride) who were shite, so I
had plenty of time to drink Guinness.
Yes, I'm rambling, but I'm getting all nostalgic.
An all-nighter at the Scala with Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazazza, Leather
Nun, and films by Günter Bruss...
Those were the days my friends and those were the days my friends...

I rather like Ride. Way back when, the band I was in played the Rock
Garden on the same bill as The Alarm. It was their first London gig, and
they had arranged to video it. Their camera geezer was late so we swapped
slots on the bill and we went on first. We did one of our best sets ever.
The Alarm were shite. When we phoned the Rock Garden a few weeks later to
get another gig they told us "second band on the bill on <insert date
here>, nope, everyone walked out, you'll not be playing here again". The
rest is history. The Alarm are still shite.
Best gig I've ever seen was probably at Ally Pally. Opened by The
Raincoats, who were charming as ever, and enormous fun. The John Cooper
Clarke. Somebody was bottled in the audience during his set and he pretty
much sorted the entire fracas out from on stage, by sheer force of
personality. An utterly brilliant set. Then the Slits, who were the
Slits, nuff said. Finally the Au Pairs who outdid everyone else.
Best individual set was The Members at the Southall Kids gig at the
Roundhouse. They followed a great set from Aswad and proceeded to blow
the headliners off stage. The headliners being The Clash.

I still remember a Scala all nighter with 23 Skidoo top of the bill.

Bastard! Don't get their (reasonably) new CD. It's shite, even though it
features Pharaoh Sanders.
Still - Coup - what a track (Get Down!).
And there's some surprising stuff on YouTube:
Vegas el Bandito

Warning - unpleasant video - rabbit being gassed.

Likewise. Now that I've got the tendons in my hand working again I seem
to have found most of the missing bottom end of my voice again. Suddenly
anything and everything can be blues. Some of which I'm fairly pleased
with.
Question is whether I can start writing songs again.
Though these days the dosh is in gigging, so it's not so important to
write as it used to be I guess.

Excellent.
And an exception to George Carlin's otherwise commendable rule that white men
shouldn't play the blues;

Fan-bloody-tastic. Cave can still do it. BBC 4 now, Cave and Cale (and a
superfluous Chrissie Hynde, time for a cuppa).
Monte Cazzazza, there's a name from the past, saw him in Leeds in about
'79 it must have been. God, I am old.
23 Skidoo. Porno Base. I liked that one.

There's a worthwhile comment about him on iTunes.
"Steve, did you meet someone at the crossroads?"
First comment on a performer I've thought was worth quoting.

Debugging is at least twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. So, if your code is as clever as you can possibly make it,
then by definition you're not smart enough to debug it.
