Surprisingly good as long as it's not accompanied by a video. I can't
think of anyone I would less like to look at. OTOH the critics who
declare XXX is the new Winehouse are talking via their hats. She has

True.
Then again, Charlotte Church has (had) The Voice Of An Angel(TM) but I

It's OK. She's got a genuine voice, and sings with real soul, but it
always leaves me with the impression that she's really lazy about it and
not doing half what she could if she really made an effort. Kind of like
Bessie Smith settling for singing like Katie Melua.
Give me The Bellrays instead...now that's singing.

Get a copy of Diaspora. ASAP. It's a great album, as in one of the twenty
or so I simply couldn't live without. Also worth a listen is her version
of I Put a Spell On You, which is on Gedida IIRC. Fantastic voice, nice
lass too. She stole my drummer. I don't mind. That's how good she is.
Sadly I don't think there's anything much out there when it comes to
recordings of her singing with The Flavell Bambi Septet. I shall have to
ask around (actually I'll ask the trombonist).

One of the best ever. My favourite of her albums is Parakou. Just because
it seems to have more range than most, and the backing band sound less

I'm confused. I'd always thought that this was a Dead Can Dance song and
further confused because it is sung by a Lisa (Gerrard). I had no idea
it was by Tim Buckley whose work I like, what I know of it. Thanks for
that then.

Lisa Gerard? Liz Fraser sang it on the This Mortal Coil thangs. There's a
Dead Can Dance live DVD which is well worth getting. Personally I preferred
the Cocteau Twins. Pop along to YouTube and enjoy...
Ooh - memory...
Alex Chilton - Holocaust (which was covered by This Mortal coil):

Have you come across The Morrigan?
They do a version of "Tom O' Bedlam" that blows Steeleye Span away, and
there's a version of an old carol called "Corpus Christi" that makes the
hairs on the back of my neck stand up, devout atheist and all.

"Oh bother", said the Borg, "we've assimilated Pooh".

Had a bit of a listen on their website - didn't quite do it for me. Will
have another go later.
Now this is why I love teh Interwebs. They reminded me of this:
Horslips - Man Who Built America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HHQ7kMXl7M
Seriously dreadful video, great song.
Which led me to two very different destinations...
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick (live)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PcX_D5Z_CA
Saw them live once - Ian Anderson has a massive stage presence.
And then, curiously, this...
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded By The Light
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6AFCJ1dLdg
Suddenly I have the urge to listen to Sparks. I may be some time...

It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is,
it doesn't matter how smart you are.
If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.

Does this make anyone else think "Peter Cook and Dudley Moore"?

Look, I was rather young and she looked a bit less mad back in those
days, and the were-fire affected my mind, honest. And the location at
Erwood Hall was rather romantic by moonlight.
