Zimbabwe
Fuck.

If only Mbeki had balls.

Yes, I know that I am oversimplifying, but until Mbeki says "stop", then
Mandela can't, and he's probably the only person who can actually stop
this.

Realistically I don't think anything's going to happen until Mugabe dies.
He's 84 so he can't have very long to go. If he's assassinated there will
almost certainly be civil war and if he dies naturally there will be a power
vacuum with some powerful generals waiting behind the scenes. Either way the
country will be even more screwed than it is now. Part of Mugabe's strategy
is to blame the West for his own failings, and it might be interesting to
see his reaction if he was wrongfooted by means of a carefully worded
statement. He wants to present himself as some kind of anti imperialist
freedom fighter and it would probably really wind him up if there was an
implication that he might end up being involved in some kind of alliance
with the countries that he claims to hate.

It seems to me to be another potential beach-head
for the Chinese in Africa.

If Mandela stood up and said "stop", then everything would change.
Currently he doesn’t want to interfere with the South African
Government, but if he does, then people will listen to him. If he says that
Mugabe is wrong, then he will be listened to. He is the most powerful man
in Africa, and rightly so.

I think you're missing the point. Some months ago Mbeki admitted that he
favoured Mugabe over Tsvangirai, which is why the MDC has said that they
don't have any faith in Mbeki. I'm tempted to wonder what Mbeki finds so
alluring about the tin-pot dictator with the well-stuffed Swiss bank
account.

That French woman lived to 125. I just hope that it's impossible to get
hold of olive oil in Zimbabwe.

There is nothing any of us can do about it. People are suffering all
over the world and always have been.

So, what first attracted you to millionaire Paul Daniels?

Yah, they haven't quite clicked with those jungle rhythms,
I reckon, and that weird pentatonic scale just doesn't really go.

Mbeki is a weapons-grade fuckwit, basically.

The AIDS denying, holocaust on his back doorstep ignoring Mbeki a
fuckwit? Doesn't even come close to describing him. However the
relationship with Mugabe seems even dirtier than mere fuckwittery would
suggest.

Couldn't we get some industrial rapeseed oil and pretend it's olive oil?

It's not safe to buy olive oil in some supermarkets, particularly the
German bucket shops:

http://www.oliveoilsource.com/scripts/dictionary.asp?p_do=item&p_id=51

I'd always wondered how the two supermarkets in question could sell
extra virgin Italian olive oil at less than the cost of production.
Simple answer, they can't.

Amen to that. But also a nasty weapons grade fuckwit and a past
master at underhand politics. Rhamaposa should have had the heir
elect position; Mbeki edged him out.
