Hell. Respect. Mike Rutherford is a local villager, a near neighbour who
makes equipment for a pop group Genesis. At 'The Farm', Genesis's home
base, he has a room adjoining the recording studio with walls lined
floor to ceiling CDs. Thousands of them. Probably not as many as have
been mentioned in this thread but a fair number.
The only time I ever bought a CD I was so spooked out by the experience
that I never repeated it. I'm not a great fan of music, any music,
although I always enjoy a Civic Hall concert by the Guildford
Philharmonic, and the Battle Proms at Loseley House each summer. An old
friend, Denise Leigh, a blind soprano, always gives a sublime
performance at Loseley.
A Christmas about four years ago I needed the words of a song written
and performed by the folk singer, Jake Thackerey. I ordered a copy from
Amazon. I listened to it while I washed up after a Christmas luncheon
party. The following day I was electrified to hear on the news that Jake
Thackerey had died the day before -- at about the time I was listening
to the track for which I was writing down the word. It was called Jake
Thackerey's Last Will and Testament.
It cast a sombre note over my Christmas.
