How do I get a national insurance number?
I was born in the UK

I have a British Passport. I am a British Citizen.

How on earth do I get a National Insurance number?

I moved abroad when I was a baby (4 months old).

Do I just walk into a governemnt office & ask for a NI number? Does it
take weeks & weeks?

I am moving (permanently) to Boston, but want to stay here for about 11
months.

(I'd rather not work 'cash-in-hand' as it's less easy to pay tax)

Help, please!
