Its exactly right you idiot, 430.22 pm x 12 ^ 52 is 99.28 pw on the nose.

Oh I see, just noticed the £475.00 pcm :) still wrong though. To be more
exact, that leaves you £10.33 per week short. The council are supposed to
pay the rent as determined by the rent office. Thats the whole point of the
PTD, the cant ignore the RO's decision. Show the council the PTD letter
stating the correct rent for your address, they have to pay the rent as
stated, if not, you can appeal.

for a start, it depends what income the poster has. Not everyone is
entitled to full HB. There could be ineligible items in the rent, such
as water charges and sewerage charges.
"The Pre-Tenancy Determination does not guarantee that you will get
Housing Benefit or tell you the amount you will get." - that's the
official line.

They always try to cut a bit off the rent, no matter what the amount is.

The rent office determines the rent, when I had a PTD done for where I am
living now, the RO came in £15 pw under what the landlord was asking, the
landlord agreed to accept the amount on the PTD, then the bloody council
tried to cut that by another £7 pw, so I showed them the PTD letter and they
paid up, about 12 months later, they tried it on again, this time they
tried to knock me for £6 pw.
The official line as given to me from the horses mouth is the council must
abide by the RO's decision, thats their job, there is no point in having
PTD's or rent officers if the council is going to ignore them.

I put week in the OP where I meant month.

That is indeed what I though.

They have this letter on file already.

I'm on IB and DLA, apparently DLA is not taken into account so that just
leaves the IB.

Not in this case, power, water, and everything else is paid for separately
by myself. No garage either.

So what is the point of PTD then?

Like all public sector workers, Robbie errs on the side of caution when they
do not know the rules and regs that applies in your case. If you read what
he says word for word, it is true that a PTD does not guarantee HB, it is
also true that a PTD will not make you look any younger, if that helps. But
he is wrong about the amount you will get. The whole point of the PTD is to
tell you the exact amount you will or should get based on the RO's
evaluation. Age is a factor in determining how much rent you will get, for
eg if you are under 25 then they can tell you to rent a room in a house.
Over this age and you are entitled to have your own place.

The RO set the maximum rent, not the benefit award, which also takes the
rest of the claimant's circumstances into account.

Assuming you are entitled to full benefit, no savings and unemployed etc,
then the council must pay the rent as stated by the RO.

Yes, with the small proviso that ineligble service charges might be
deducted.
