Tailoring the CV to the job?
Ummm....is that noticeable to the employer? Or is it just minor
changes to highlight particular areas?
Minor tailoring takes just minutes, major tailoring of a document can
take days. But never heard of someone doing it to their Cv before.
The same CV for all jobs is what most people have. The information on
the CV tends to not change much except with time. After all, you don't
suddenly change educational qualifications years later, neither do
previous employers change much (but can be added to). So not exactly
at a disadvantage if using your standard CV.
4 days a week in the voluntary sector? Is that with Steps to Work?
Seriously, the voluntary sector (actually its the third sector) does
have plenty of jobs. Its more common to find people wanting to work in
the third sector being placed for 4 days a week. Not heard of people
being placed against their will yet (thats coming in a few years with
the government plans for 16 year olds).
And 4 days is usually 28 - 30 hours, leaving at least 138 hours to do
other things.
Timescale is such that there isn't usually enough time to get CRB
checks done first, so in many charities the work that can be done is
limited for volunteers there on short term.
We get them making drinks (we all do that anyway), playing pool with
clients, helping run activities (but not on their own) or helping sort
clothing and food. Hardly gripping stuff, but hardly a risk to clients
either.
