Payment from Job Broker
I was on IB, I'm now claiming IS at a reduced rate while I'm waiting for a
review.
I've been seeing a SIBA arranged job broker. They've jsut sent me a cheque
for £50.
Do I need to declare this to the Housing Benefit / CTB people; and what
effect will it have on those benefits?
Will it make any difference if my appeal finds in my favour an back-pays me
all the IB?

If you are on IS then any income or savings does not need to be declared
to HB or CTB sections at all - it is the IS section at the DWP that you
would need to inform. However in this case, this payment should be
classed as capital (ie savings) - it is a one off payment and isn't
classed as earnings or a benefit. Nor is it paid for an item that IS is
meant to cover (eg if someone pays a gas bill for you).
What do you mean by your final paragraph? Do you mean about repaying the
£50 or something else?

I was on IB long term higher rate. I had a medical review, which said that
I was able to work. I'm appealing that, and while the appeal is going
through I'm claiming IS reduced rate.
The difference between the IB I was claiming and the IS I am claiming is
significant, and I'm hoping -if the appeal finds that I am unfit for work-
that they'll back-pay the difference.
But, while I've been claiming a smaller amount in IS I've been getting a
higher rate of housing benefit, so I'm guessing that I'll have to repay
some HB.
